......if this were Mexico City, the name "CORONAS" just may work. For I'm most certain that it could envoke a bit of national pride for the very citizens that stir the hops, add the yellow coloring, and produce this beer product.......but please know, that Mexico City has a few ultra conservatives as well...... NOW, please allow me the honor of welcoming you to the CITY OF HOUSTON, TEXAS. For we are a city that is fast becoming the new beacon of the south. Our city is so diverse, that it is almost safe to say that the beacon that glows atop Williams Tower, actually shines it's light on all of the world by way of Houston........... .........we are building up and growing like crazy.......and we are fast becoming extremely sosphisticated along the way...... The name "Coronas" would surely do well in Cozumel, Mexico City, etc....but it could never work here in the largest city within the LONE STAR STATE. I can only imagine the laughter that this insult would provoke among the citizens of SAN JOSE, for whom just lost their beloved team to the City of Houston.........we would certainly become a national laughingstock..........just like the TEXANS.......a team that I have been a season ticket holder with since day one, and a team that I love dearly! NO SKWATRA, we are going to do this right this time. We are going to show the soccer world just what Houston has now become..........a Texas sized city where anything and everything is possible. SKWATRA is correct in stating that Houston will again emerge upon the brink of worldwide adoration, envy, excitement, you name it because of future space exploration, as well as advances in space technology etc..etc... Well think everyone, just who are what space entity is going to be constantly within the worldwide spotlight regarding the overall space exploration?...........do you give up? well now, the answer is MISSION CONTROL(MC) . OK EVERYONE, LET'S PUT ON OUR ROSE COLORED SPECTACLES FOR JUST A MOMENT.......... "HOUSTON MC'S MISSION CONTROL" ..........this name has it all. This name certainly evokes our city's heritage regarding space, and yet has a bit of momentum attached to it.......something that incorporates the youth and spirit that is soccer This name also incorporates a certain hip hop flair that would certainly fly high with our city's big, magnificent, and popular rap and hip hop culture. I for one would think that even the most ultra conservative citizen/fan would come to appreciate this particular name.....for it tends to stand apart from the others and demands respect. Greetings Danax... My oh my great pal, no offense taken. I opened this forum to any and all opinions and certainly yours counts. I am an extremely mature individual, and I can certainly handle any constructive critizism. Critizism that is practical that is........ Don't we live in SPACE CITY? For as long as I have called Houston home for over 26-plus years, this city has been trying it's best to come forth with an identity/image that is indicative upon our region, economy, ethnicity of it's multitudes of diverse citizenry, heat, humidity, and the list just goes on and on. But when all is said and done.......SPACE as well as WESTERN themes always seem to reign supreme......Rockets, Comets, Astros......get the picture....... Anyone could easily present the argument that the name "EARTHQUAKES" really had nothing to do with San Jose's former team from a personal standpoint. Nevertheless, they were presented with the name EARTHQUAKES which in my opinion would be indicative upon all of the earthquakes that we all know that region within California is famous for. As an extremely patriotic as well as proud American, I would only leave decisions and choices which in some capacity would affect me personally to the "Latins" only if I was visiting a Latin country, or if the "Latins" were the sources that initiated the situation in the first place. For as an American, I am accustomed to thinking America first......and everything else is respectfully secondary........ Let us not forget Danax, that this team has just left the state of California, from a city with a Spanish name "San Jose" simply because the economics/finances were very obviously in big time shambles. And I am certain there were many "Latins" in attendance at those games....right! FORGET GAUDINESS! I initiated this particular topic in hopes that we would be able to present some great ideas between ourselves and come forth with some ideas that we can all be proud of......... OK! so lately the Houston Chronicle has been indicating with reckless abandon that the ownership/management shall present us with the very democratic courtesy of allowing the citizens of Houston/Harris County to vote on our city's newest Major League Soccer franchise's permanent nickname. Well fortunately I have a bit of experience in these community oriented events, for I was extremely instrumental in getting out the vote for the "Texans" nickname contest within the downtown region. Unfortunately, my submission did not win of course......."HOUSTON STEALTH".......for I chose a space theme. BUT NEVERTHELESS, I'm prepared to head forward into this next venture with equal momentum...... 1. HOUSTON METEORITES. 2. HOUSTON ECLIPSE. 3. HOUSTON METEORS. 4. HOUSTON GALACTINS. 5. Greetings Redscare..... MS. KRUPA ACTUALLY HAS NO RIGHT TO HATE ANYTHING ABOUT HOUSTON, TX! It is not as though she paid a visit to IRAQ.......a war zone. She departed a city that has been decimated by a KILLER HURRICANE......ventured into the fourth largest city in America........a city that arguably has just set the BENCHMARK in humanity, compassion, and generosity, to hundreds of thousands of her city's citizens. Please allow me the opportunity to share with this forum a little personal biography. For I was born in the city of Lafayette, LA., raised in the city of Beaumont, TX, and moved to Houston in the year of 1983. I can honestly assure anyone that upon my arrival to the city of Houston, I for one marveled at the freeway system, billboards, gas stations, ......and THANKED GOD THAT I WAS ON MY WAY TO A NEW LIFE IN THE BIG CITY! ......no one held an M-16 up to my head and made me come here........... REDSCARE, I accept your challenge on behalf of the drivers within the city of Houston. For if you must know, they are the one's that actually taught me how to REALLY drive......as in objectively. defensively. and a little bit more accurately. Greetings great pals..... PASSION! ......yes, that's the word of the hour, PASSION, in all of it's intricate glory. Now now everyone. let us all take a genuine deep breath for all of goodness sake. Please allow yourself the luxury of placing yourself behind the driver's seat as Ms. Krupa departed N.O. for Houston(can't you just imagine the pain)? Can't you just read between the lines as to the statements she made regarding her normal daily runs through Audobon Park? (so much pain......indeed). So now, you just may be privy to her initial mindset even before she arrived into the fourth largest city in America. INTIMIDATING! ......yes, that's the word of the moment, INTIMIDATING, only if you are not prepared. The City of Houston can be quite intimidating, and then some. So many people from all of mankind coming to Houston, Texas with the strangest of expectations(cows, bulls, the wild wild west. big hair, guns w/holster's,) get the picture? Maybe Ms. Krupa just wasn't prepared for all that she experienced upon her actual arrival.......BIG BIG BIG...as in everything! A gleaming metropolis......who would have guessed? Highways and byways everywhere.......as in SPRAWL, not such a dirty word is it? The world's largest med center.......the original and best Galleria in the U.S. ......and the list just grows and grows....... Now wait just a moment, just who on earth did Ms Krupa speak with upon her arrival in our fair town? For I'm sure that we can all imagine the passions/intimidations that the citizens of N.O. have to face upon a daily basis as they try hard to adjust to life in the fourth largest Metropolis in the U.S. .......for each one of us have to go through our own periods of adjustment at some period or another and we're Houstonians. So we understand their plight ........and it just has not become an issue for us. WE ARE GOING TO HELP THEM AND THAT'S THAT! SO I say to you great pals.....Citykid, HoustonSemiPro, I appreciate your passion on behalf of your city. Seems we Houstonians always have to come to the rescue of an attack upon our city's image at some point or another. Just tone down your written articulation......for your words seem to contradict your statements againt the mean streets of N.O.............sort of like you are from there intricately...... WesternGulf, your bias is showing. And that's a GREAT THING! .......for all of the mean streets, and precarious areas within the City of N.O. .........the city really is quaint, charming, mysterious, intriguing, and the culture is one big beautiful tasty infusion of ingredients, that make up one memorable GUMBO THAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK FOR MORE........sort of like Cuba, we are actually banned from traveling there, but we all want to go........now don't we.... Ms Krupa, now that you have returned home to the Times-Picayune, please allow yourself to become a real professional reporter. Greetings Houston Retail... I do understand that discretion is tantamount within your obvious profession, but just what are you indicating here? Apparently, we were all under the impression for months that this project was a BIG GO! I for one just cannot imagine the landlord was making all that much of a financial windfall on parking leases within that particular building.......for whom would have guessed? Seems to me that a bit of momentum, as well as a few prior pronouncements from just across the street "HOUSTON PAVILIONS PROJECT" are starting to produce the standard "sugarplums" effect as in greed...... from a few property owners. Also, and once again I do respect that you may not be able to reveal too much on some prospects, but are there going to be a few surprises to go along with the American Apparel store within that same building? I am most certain that with the announcement that the "TIRZ" process has accomplished and that the HP project is now in the rapid planning stages as we speak, that there is going to be a lot of prospective merchants wanting to join in on this momentum and getting in while they can. HOOK'EM HORNS! .......surely someone has created a burnt orange rose by now.....

Who knows what the final perspectives will look like, for everyone should please realize that these architects, developers, and city planning officials have certain agendas that they just don't want disturbed until they are finalized and agreed upon. I really get the feeling that the finalized perspectives for H-Pavilions will be a bit more glamorous than what has been disclosed to date. The sheer interest from this board alone shall speak volumes in regards to what was initially planned. Please know everyone, that the developer is watching and listening to the vibes of this community as per the initial press conference..........and I'm sure he's GRINNING LIKE A CHESSHIER CAT........metropolitantexan

Well. maybe I am misinterpreting the developers plans for this retail entity, but I do believe that American Apparel will only occupy a small portion of the old Sakowitz building. Therefore, I have relegated them to mall status. Although, I am most certain that there will be a viable market for them in downtown Houston, I just really feel that they would be somewhat better suited for the H-Pavilions property. My personal opinion is that the Sakowitz building is more better suited for something on a more grander scale.......something that will add a more consistent/upscale feel for that ever revolving sector of downtown.

Greetings Everyone........ SO YOU'VE REELED ME IN, and this is great thing indeed. Every since I have stumbled across this magnificent forum of ideas, opinions, sarcasms, love & subconcious devotion to this great city of Houston that most of us shall call home, I have been pulled toward this website with an unparalleled force searching for more info on some of these great and prospective ventures headed towards our great city. I moved to the city of Houston in the summer of 1983, and I can honestly assure anyone that I have fallen deeply for the BIG H. I spent a lot of time working in the medical center before I moved on to the oil & gas sector wthin Downtown Houston. Many of us have been waiting, hearing, and contemplating for many years about all or most of the prospective's that have been slated towards various sections/districts within our city. Please allow me to focus on Houston Pavilions first and foremost...... Please forgive me for I am truly guilty of becoming a bonafide nutcase in regards to current events............for I look, listen, and try hard to prepare for almost anything that can play a role in the overall enhancement or growth of this town we call Houston. H-Pavilions has been a longed planned albeit very hush hush prospective entertainment entity. Conceptualized and modeled after it's sister facility within the city of Denver, it should truly be a monument to urban big city capitalism. I have often wondered as to why it was taking the developer such a long time to bring forth this prospect, but I have come to somewhat expect any form of red tape and bureaucracy usually initiated by our ultra conservative city officials. For in the very beginning, H-Pavilions was actually planned to be built right in front of the GRB, on the very land that our proposed new park will be built. But I must admit that I still indeed find it a bit strange that American Apparel will build inside the old Sakowitz structure directly in front of what will eventually become Macy's. I guess somewhere in my heart of hearts that I was hoping for a bit of a miracle for some developer to come in and resurrect this building to it's original splendor with the opening of a grand department store instead of a mall type concept that is American Apparel. I am most certain that we that frequent this forum know within our heart of hearts that one day soon downtown Houston shall indeed shine and gleem with magnificence with all of the new prospects that eventually follow such prime innovations, but what we just don't know is just what does the Macy's Corp. have in-store for the old downtown Foley's venue. Shall it be totally renovated from ground up? For it most definately needs to be........ or what? At this point I am totally curious......... anyone care to elaborate..........so glad to be here................metropolitantexan
