  1. I don't know how they do it, but I heard on the radio the other day that there is an outdoor frozen rink up in the Woodlands and my boyfriend said he heard there was one in Galveston... so I guess it can be done. I guess we will see.

They do this in many places. In fact, there was an ice skating rink in front of the downtown Foley's for several years in a row in the late 90's/early 2000's. I've even seen a rink on the beach in San Diego.

  2. I got an email from Texans president Jamey Rootes pleading with Texans fans to understand their point of view. I quoted it below. Luckily he also requested feedback, I've provided mine. If you'd like to provide yours, here is the email: fanfeedback@houstontexans.com

You may be aware of the recent public debate regarding the redevelopment of the Reliant Astrodome. This note is to clarify the Houston Texans' concerns about the Astrodome Redevelopment Corporation's (ARC) proposal to redevelop the Dome and articulate our general position regarding redevelopment of the Dome.

We want to make it very clear that we do not object to the redevelopment of the Dome, rather we whole heartedly support it. However, we believe that any redevelopment of the Dome:

    * Must not conflict with or negatively impact the operations of the prime tenants at Reliant Park (the Houston Texans and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo), especially as it relates to key fan experience elements, such as traffic and parking; and

    * Must comply with the legal rights of the prime tenants.

While the public debate regarding this issue is new, our involvement in this process is not. We have worked diligently with ARC and Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation (HCSCC) representatives since ARC's Astrodome redevelopment proposal was first presented to HCSCC in 2003. During this four-year period, we have consistently and clearly expressed our concerns and expectations regarding this project to ARC and HCSCC representatives. Although ARC representatives have indicated a general willingness to protect our rights, the current plan submitted by ARC is not responsive to our concerns and expectations and would negatively impact the world-class game day experience we create at Reliant Park for our fans.

We hope you can appreciate our desire to have the Dome redevelopment process conducted in a thoughtful manner that adds value for the community. We also hope you will understand our objections to a proposal that would negatively impact the experience you have come to expect when attending Houston Texans games and Rodeo events at Reliant Park. We would appreciate your support as we work with County officials to identify the most appropriate way to redevelop the Dome.

Our primary interest is to protect the experience of our fans during and after the Dome redevelopment effort, so please let us know your thoughts. We want to ensure that the right steps are taken at Reliant Park to enhance the value and utilization of this world-class community asset for this and the next generation of Texans.

I hope that this brief note has helped you to understand our position regarding this important issue. From all of us at the Houston Texans, we hope that you and your family have a safe and happy holiday season.

    Jamey Rootes

    President

  3. Because this isn't the first instance you've done that. You have a very hard time with keeping with the context and framework of posts.

Kingwilliam, please get off Trae's back. He's a regular here and has been for a long time. You're new, we don't appreciate new guys coming in and belittling, arguing, talking down, etc. to anyone. This board is for intelligent exchanges of information and opinions.

Welcome Gene. I work real close too so I follow this one closely.

  5. Did y'all see the tackle the cop put on this guy when he was running away? They showed it real well on Channel 2. This cop looked like a linebacker coming full speed at a QB, but without the pads! It was awesome!

  6. People are talking a lot about that drive. What was your thought process when you saw him taking it to the hole? Confidence? Or was it the feeling you get when Tracy is taking a jumper...holding your breathe? I heard it was "acrobatic." Was it a "wild" shot? Can you color commentate for me? haha

I was definitely more confident than when Tracy pulls up for an untimely jumpshot. I think you should always go to the hole in that situation so I was thrilled to see Stevie (anybody really) do it. Even if you miss, you'll usually get a foul called. That's why you do it. I was actually hoping for a 3 point play but we ended up not needing it. It was a classic "Stevie" shot, a little higher on the level of difficulty than needed, but hey, he made it. I'd like to see more of that kind of leadership on this team.

  7. Can you guys tell me why heavily wooded lots tend to have higher prices in the Katy Area and West Houston? For example..Williamsburg Settlement....Nottingham Country...Westfield....Memorial Area....River Oaks....The Woodlands? Why do buyers care so much about tree surrounding a house...espcially LOBLOLLY PINE TREES..ARE REALLY HOT IN THE REAL STATE MARKET...Thanks!

People love trees. Not only are they attractive but they lower energy costs and allow families to spend much more time outdoors. It's hard to meet the trend towards outdoor rooms without a good tree cover to shade the area and make it comfortable.

  8. very well said highway6. im 16 and i think the highlight of my life so far is being on the field in the front row and having A&M beat UT at home for the first time since the bonfire tragedy in '99. it was truly amazing. didnt sherman also coach the packers for 5 years and sent them to the superbowl too?

No, Sherman didn't coach the Packers to the Super Bowl, actually he had a poor (2-4 I think) record in the playoffs. Let's hope that he can do much better at the college game. One thing is for sure, he's definitely and Aggie-type coach. He loves Aggieland and all that it stands for. Fran never quite got it.

  9. Let's wait for the Sugar Land "haters" to spin this one.

In another blow to the Motor City's tarnished image, Detroit pushed past St. Louis to become the nation's most dangerous city, according to a private research group's controversial analysis, released today, of annual FBI crime statistics.

The study ranked Mission Viejo, Calif., as the safest U.S. city, followed by Clarkstown, N.Y.; Brick Township, N.J.; Amherst, N.Y.; and Sugar Land.
