  1. After viewing the site earlier today and remembering what you said, I was curious to know if the Foundation is rated for a high rise. We have seen how even recent construction (20-30 years ago) tend to differ from the original plans.

While I do think it's interesting that they didn't dig up the original foundation, I do know that this first building going up is only supposed to be 3-4 floors. It's not one of the highrises.

  2. The #5 High School will be located on Spring Cypress east of huffsmith, and west of old louetta on the land currently occupied by a private land owner.

The brilliant minds at KISD want to build this high school, and immediatly name it Klein High School. It will be called KHS while the original KHS is demolished and rebuilt on the same spot for the price of $100,000,000. This will last for roughly a two year period all the while the resident s who live across the street from the new high school (Gleannloch, Memorial Creek, etc) will still be forced to attend Klein Oak.

The KISD Bond Program is getting a little out of control, I for one will not be voting for it if they keep with this plan. KISD need to grow and build new facilities, but demolishing a school to put a new one in its place tio the tune of One Hundred Million Dollars is not fiscally responsible. There are better ways to update and improve that campus.

That's sad. I went to KHS, I'd hate to see the old bird demolished. There's a lot of history in those buildings. The school has been around for over 65 years.

  3. I don't know how they do it, but I heard on the radio the other day that there is an outdoor frozen rink up in the Woodlands and my boyfriend said he heard there was one in Galveston... so I guess it can be done. I guess we will see.

They do this in many places. In fact, there was an ice skating rink in front of the downtown Foley's for several years in a row in the late 90's/early 2000's. I've even seen a rink on the beach in San Diego.

  4. I got an email from Texans president Jamey Rootes pleading with Texans fans to understand their point of view. I quoted it below. Luckily he also requested feedback, I've provided mine. If you'd like to provide yours, here is the email: fanfeedback@houstontexans.com

You may be aware of the recent public debate regarding the redevelopment of the Reliant Astrodome. This note is to clarify the Houston Texans' concerns about the Astrodome Redevelopment Corporation's (ARC) proposal to redevelop the Dome and articulate our general position regarding redevelopment of the Dome.

We want to make it very clear that we do not object to the redevelopment of the Dome, rather we whole heartedly support it. However, we believe that any redevelopment of the Dome:

    * Must not conflict with or negatively impact the operations of the prime tenants at Reliant Park (the Houston Texans and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo), especially as it relates to key fan experience elements, such as traffic and parking; and

    * Must comply with the legal rights of the prime tenants.

While the public debate regarding this issue is new, our involvement in this process is not. We have worked diligently with ARC and Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation (HCSCC) representatives since ARC's Astrodome redevelopment proposal was first presented to HCSCC in 2003. During this four-year period, we have consistently and clearly expressed our concerns and expectations regarding this project to ARC and HCSCC representatives. Although ARC representatives have indicated a general willingness to protect our rights, the current plan submitted by ARC is not responsive to our concerns and expectations and would negatively impact the world-class game day experience we create at Reliant Park for our fans.

We hope you can appreciate our desire to have the Dome redevelopment process conducted in a thoughtful manner that adds value for the community. We also hope you will understand our objections to a proposal that would negatively impact the experience you have come to expect when attending Houston Texans games and Rodeo events at Reliant Park. We would appreciate your support as we work with County officials to identify the most appropriate way to redevelop the Dome.

Our primary interest is to protect the experience of our fans during and after the Dome redevelopment effort, so please let us know your thoughts. We want to ensure that the right steps are taken at Reliant Park to enhance the value and utilization of this world-class community asset for this and the next generation of Texans.

I hope that this brief note has helped you to understand our position regarding this important issue. From all of us at the Houston Texans, we hope that you and your family have a safe and happy holiday season.

    Jamey Rootes

  5. hi everyone

long time reader, first time poster

thanks for all the good information.

i live on mccue and work on post oak so i have been closely following this thread as i will live and work just 3 to 5 minutes walking distance from this new development!

i am really excited about the new BLVD Place project and it has been great to see the work actually begin

although i work in the travel industry i have no idea which hotel will be in BLVD Place but i am hoping for a W Hotel or similar...i think it would be a great fit.

    take care

    gene

Welcome Gene. I work real close too so I follow this one closely.

  6. People are talking a lot about that drive. What was your thought process when you saw him taking it to the hole? Confidence? Or was it the feeling you get when Tracy is taking a jumper...holding your breathe? I heard it was "acrobatic." Was it a "wild" shot? Can you color commentate for me? haha

I was definitely more confident than when Tracy pulls up for an untimely jumpshot. I think you should always go to the hole in that situation so I was thrilled to see Stevie (anybody really) do it. Even if you miss, you'll usually get a foul called. That's why you do it. I was actually hoping for a 3 point play but we ended up not needing it. It was a classic "Stevie" shot, a little higher on the level of difficulty than needed, but hey, he made it. I'd like to see more of that kind of leadership on this team.

  7. Great game for the Texans today. They beat a team they should have and didn't have many mental breakdowns. It was good to see AJ back and nice to see Schaub have a good game. If only we could get Ahman back, we'd be in early season form. I was really impressed with our defense as well, they are riddled with injuries but held a good offense to only 10 points! Go Texans! Except for Bob McNair and his Astrodome-redevelopment-killin-ass.

  8. Tonight would've been a good night to throw Stevie out there. We really needed a spark with Tracy out and Mike James having another off night, not to mention Rafer who is always off. Can't Adelman just tell Rafer to never take a 3?

Adelman: Rafer, if you're open on the arc, PASS the damn ball!

  9. Drove by a sign today at the Lakes on Post Oak complex near Hidalgo and McCue (across the street from Nordstroms). It appears from the site plan that they are going to place retail into the existing parking garage and and some surrounding the part next to Hidalgo...what do you guys think of the renderings?...and on a sidenote the sign said it was being done by Hermes Architects, but couldn't find anything on their site about this.

Looks pretty cool. Here is a satellite of that location, it looks like they'll also be turning part of the first floor of the diagonal office building into retail as well as building the 2 story retail from the ground.

  10. The statistics for the PGs in tonight's game were not very nice. And Mike James statistically hasn't been very good the past couple games. Stevie might get his chance yet.

Anyone see the game tonight? I missed it. Did Rafer and Mike suck as bad as their stats show?

I think Mike had an off shooting night as did Rafer. The difference is that Rafer shouldn't be taking most of the shots he does anyhow. Also, Tracy was taking some bad shots instead of passing, I wish he'd get over that. Fortunately for the Rockets this year, we have a much deeper bench. When 2 or 3 guys aren't playing well, we still have others that can be the spark. In this game Yao was awesome again, and Bonzi was the guy who came through off the bench. I dare say we might've lost this game last year due to our bench.

  11. Why do you say that? Just because he's the one above him on the list for playing time?

No, because I don't like the way Luther is playing. He isn't a playmaker like Bonzi, Mike, and Steve. I think Steve is a better fit in this offense. If he can get in shape that is.

  12. I'm with you guys on this one. There is simply NO reason that the dome could not be renovated into the 1300 room hotel and be an asset to Reliant Park. Texans and Rodeo want more $$$ for parking. Greed. Rodeo attendance has been down in the past few years. Sounds like Rodeo needs to entertain some fresh ideas. The hotel would be very helpful in drawing more conventions to Reliant. Guests could stay at the hotel and have the convenience of the train to Museum District, downtown, etc.

Especially when the Texans bring customers to Reliant Park exactly 10 days a year and the Rodeo brings them approximately 30 days a year. Now why, may I ask, do these two groups who only bring in customers 40 out of 365 days out of the year get to decide what happens on the other 325 days?!? It's out-frikkin-rageous!
