This could be an ugly year alright. However, we know that going in so that helps with the season not being a heart breaker. It's baseball and I'll be at tons of games and watching the rest on TV. It's the only sport I care about. It would be cool if they were an upper tier team, but they're not. That's not the kind of owner we have. Drayton puts profits first, championships second - always. At least I'll get to see other teams and players.
As much as I'd like to rant about all of it, it could be worse. I could be living in a city with no team. I'll take bad over none, any day.
I would agree that we could be much worse off. I think there are things to criticize Drayton for, however I also think he's been our best owner ever. He has made big moves to get us to the World Series. We may not be in contention every year, but we've been in contention more often than not the last 10 years. Thank your lucky stars you're not from N. Texas and stuck with the Rangers. They don't even have a roof in the summer. I still don't know how they sell tickets.

Anyone who doesn't understand the one is in downtown and the other is not should be deported. For chrissakes it's painfully obvious... Can we say the Astrodome is also in downtown? What about the med center? Is that downtown also? How about the galleria? Or the woodlands? Come on... give me a break.
You're always this surly aren't you?

I would never ever set foot in one of those places ever.
Here's that "holier than thou" I was talking about above.

And everyone is entitled to his/her opinions, which includes feeling like the restaurant is a piece of crap.
That's what I said in #2. Thanks for the support.
Welcome to the wonderful world of internet fora, where everyone has an opinion and no one is afraid to share. I see you've mastered sharing your own opinions, now sit back and enjoy the opinions of others! You're right, everyone is ruder online. I try not to be by respecting others opinions and not mocking them.

Had to Google it since I've never heard of "Rainforest Cafe" before this thread. I suspected super cheesy theme experience, but now I'm thinking this is the most bizarre restaurant concept I've ever heard of. The very idea that a child-free adult would set foot in a place like this is creepy to me. Except I guess Father Ted.
It sounded suspiciously like the handiwork of Tilman Fertitta, and lo, I was not disappointed.
1) I find it difficult to believe that you've never heard of the "Rainforest Cafe" as it has been very popular for at least a decade.
2) You are of course entitled to your opinion, but don't hate on the restaurant like it's crap just because it's not your style.
I don't understand why some people have to go off on certain products as if they're holier than thou. I'm sure there are people everywhere who would think your favorite product or restaurant is crap, but they don't feel the need to tell you all the time. Odd.

Can someone explain to me what the appeal of this place is? I heard it was "amazing" so I took my kids and another family to the one in Galveston. After waiting an hour for a table among swarms of people and the shlock in the gift shop, we were finally seated... I must say, what I remember are the wait, the crowds, and the noise, not the food. I have no idea what we ate or whether it was good. I was scarred. Is it always crowded? Why do people like it?
Kids love it. Where else can you go and eat in a rainforest? It's nothing like Chili's, you get the thunderstorm every 30 minutes, the animals move, food it ok but you go for the experience. I think it'd be great to have one in the Galleria because you could shop while you wait. It would make the wait much more bearable. We do the same thing with the Cheesecake Factory when that wait gets long.

he needs to just sit his butt on the bench till he decides to play some ball or not. he is costing the rockets way to many turnovers
Not to mention poor decisions in the 4th quarter. The next time I see him hold the ball at the top of the arc and let the shot clock run down before pulling up for a 30% shot I'm going to scream! Again!

This team is sunk if T-Mac doesn't stop playing like a lazy SOB. And I'm a die hard...

This is great news! I did hear recently that the land was for sale. Had a developer bought it, we surely would've lost a beautiful amenity for the city. Kudos to H-Town for saving this urban jewel!

Its a good burger...and the sweet potato fries are tasty. But boy do they drill you. Burger, fries, and iced tea is $12+. I know I'm not eating at McDonald's, but come on.
Sounds like Red Robin prices, man is that place overpriced!

I've been to the one in the Galleria. I like it a lot. Think Palm or Morton's but for fish.
Are you talking about the Oceanaire Seafood Room? M&S is at Uptown Park.
-
Damn, they looked good. Sure there were the typical 2nd game mistakes, but I can really see what this team can be. Hell, in the 4th quarter TMac didn't even play the whole time, Scola didn't play, Alston didn't play, we won with Artest (the man), Yao, and Aaron Brooks (was supposed to be injured). If we can win with that group, then we should be able to beat anyone with our starters. BTW, we truly have a Big 3 now, Artest was awesome. No longer do we have to worry where points will come from. 3 options who can score 20+ night in night out. Wow, it feels good. PLEEZ stay healthy Rockets!

The Astrodome should definitely come down and a massive parking garage be build in it it's place.
This is wrong on so many levels.

No, I don't. You don't like the name. Other folks do.
That's my point though, it's not a name, it's a description. It's too vague to be a name. But you're right, that's my opinion.

Because it's one of the largest Business Districts in the United States. Because it employs more people and is larger than the CBDs of many other large cities in the U.S. Because when I look at its impressive skyline, I don't think of a shopping mall--I think of a vibrant, exciting, increasingly-urban employment center where many people live, work, and shop.
Ultimately, I don't think it's a big deal. I just think that calling it the "Galleria area" isn't representative of most of the development and activity in the area. Calling it the "Galleria area"--in my opinion--is selling that part of town short.
I agree wholeheartedly. Why diminish such a beautiful, vibrant area by referring to it as the "area" by the mall. "Area" is such a vague term. Uptown does have distinct boundaries as mentioned earlier in the thread. Should we start calling downtown the "Houston Pavilions Area?"
The second-most well known part of the city should have a meaningful name. Whether or not you like the term "Uptown" (which I do), you've got to admit that "Galleria Area" is an injustice to the area.

Even in these tough times, Sugar Land Town Square is bustling... Another mixed use office building is being added to Town Sqare.

Umm, unless it got fixed on Saturday or today, the bill did NOT fix that. Go back and read your business section. The reason the Dow dropped AFTER the bill passed is because the credit markets did not budge.
Things won't turn in a day.

The only thing I can compare this loss to is the Oilers loss to Buffalo. The only silver lining is that we weren't in the playoffs. The playoffs...LOL. That's something we won't have to worry about for a while. I can't believe they collapsed like that after such a well played game. To give a game away like that has to be like a sucker punch to the gut. I don't know what Kubiak can possibly to do motivate those players now. I've been a fan since McNair bought the team with that $700 million check, but I've never been more disappointed than after this game.
Losing that game, that way, was completely embarrassing.

The Lakers should really be our only competition this year. The Mavs are declining and made a bad move by firing Avery, buh buy Mavs. The Spurs are declining, lost Brent Barry to us, all their guys are older, and Manu is injured. The Suns are declining, Shaq is slow and they lost a good coach. We just have to worry about New Orleans and the Jazz. I think the Jazz are a rung below. The Hornets might cause problems though.
Go Rockets! It's Time!

Great link. I see quite a few HAIFers already suggested names. I can even right now that Cibolo, Maverick, Bluebonnet and Hopes & Dreams will bite the dust. Unless, well, if they have a Cibolo or a maverick in the committee.
"University of South Texas" was proposed. We're not even in South Texas I vote that guy off the island.

I think a sound stage is a bad idea. Why would a Hollywood director come to Houston to film a movie? I can see maybe 1 movie a year coming to the Astrodome if it was converted. That isn't nearly enough ROI for the citizens of Houston. Bring the hotel and let's have a place that can bring in out of towners and convention goers and their mighty dollars.

I mean, he was involved in the biggest fight in modern day American history (Brawl at the Palace 2004), but he didn't start it. He tried to stay away from it and was laying on a table when a fan through beer on him. That's when hell broke loose.
He still has that fire in him, but he wants to play for Rick Adelman (Rockets coach). He had his best days under him.
I like this deal. We all know the Rockets need a leader, someone with passion, someone aggressive. I think Artest can be that guy. Let T-Mac slide back out of the leadership role and focus on his game. Let Artest be vocal. I really like this move.

Are they extending Post Oak LANE to Ambassador Way?
Yes, this has been in the plans for a long time. What sux is that this building looks to be built on top of the "parkland" that the COH just took from the old guys.

Did construction stop completely, or did it just slow down? Golly, I hope they didn't run out of money.
They have definitely picked up the pace in the last 1 1/2 weeks. The steel structure is rising quickly now.
