  1. Think about it at United for a non premier. They paid $25 for bags, Then $7 for a hamburger, They paid $25 to check in at the Premier line, then watched Direct TV for $6. That is one way and duty free. Southwest will loose money without any amenities. Customer in Latin America want fist class. We will see how it works. AirTran to Latin America has so many complaints because they suck. You get what you pay for.

They will not lose money. And yes, united is scared to death of them flying to Latin America/Caribbean/Mexico

  2. It would be awesome if they have a Jumbotron....Or some huge Advertisements....(never understood why DT Houston doesnt have a million advertisements on the buildings and such seeing how there all over the freeway) Maybe a nice mural (it has to be Huge)...more bars...a rooftop lounge....

That sort of thing isn't allowed by DT management district

  3. Nice stereotyping. Try driving down Mason sometime. You'll find a pretty wide variety of small family-owned restaurants tucked into the little strip centers there.

This has become a great area for grocery stores. In addition to Trader Joe's, we've got Whole Foods, Sprouts, the big HEB, and the new Kroger Signature all within a couple of miles. I need to start cooking more.

Where is the whole foods in katy?

  4. A valid point, but Exxon is not Kodak. Kodak - while big for the film/camera world is no where near the size of an Exxon (which is an older company mind you). Kodak is also a company that produces a consumer product that is discretionary for one to buy (your home will not heat/car won't stop running if you don't have film) and they failed to change with the times to meet the needs of the current digital age. Granted digital photography didn't just pop up overnight, so Kodak failed to see the change coming. They simply rode the wave until the ocean ran out underneath them. Perhaps you will be right, perhaps Exxon/etc will one day just stop rather than adapt?

A likely outcome for the world post-oil is not a world without Exxon/BP/Chevron, but rather a world without Schlumberger/Halliburton/NOV. I think oil field service companies, marine oil companies etc. face the worst future in a post-petroleum world.

People have looked for a post fossil fuel world for over 100 years. The problem everyone gets back to is that no fuel source is nearly as fungible as fossil fuels. I think conservation is far and away the most likely outcome, with a place still for oil and gas.

  5. How will West creek and it's neighbors affect Afton Oaks?

Its a charming neighborhood, but I wouldn't mind if it wasn't there. Its one area I wouldn't mind seeing large scale demolition of all those period homes.

I felt dirty saying that. I need a shower now.

I'm glad you're in such a rush to demolish other people's homes.  That neighborhood has been around a long time, and it's those rich folks that live there that attract all of the high end retail.  Without them, Uptown wouldn't be the same.

  6. I think this is something separate, but I'm not sure if it's being pushed by the same folks as the Houston-Dallas line or not. First time i've heard anyone mention Oklahoma City, too.

I get a memorial area newspaper and the article today mentioned they are actually a step closer to funding. They are close to agreement with federal railroad commission. Not sure what that means but the article implied construction could start in as early as two years

  7. What a freaking waste! The existing building is only about 20 or so years old and of all the buildings in that area, the developers knock down a decent 20-storey building. There are countless older trashy 4-5 storey buildings all up and down that street, including the one I work in a few doors up where the elevator is dead every other day. Knock that POS down.

Well, first you have to own something before you go knocking it down. I'm always baffled by posters that think this is sim city

  8. I'm 90% sure that ROW was marked as so for the Hempstead commuter rail line they've been talking about for ages..

And Japanese as in JR railways, the company behind the Dallas to Houston high speed rail line.. I doubt they've even heard of college station, but maybe Eckles(?) is pushing for a CS stop.. Since I go to Baylor, it pains me to see college station in the discussions to get a stop without any consideration given to Waco.. I really hope there are no stops between Houston and Dallas...

Seasonal would make sense, but A&M enrollment dwarfs that of Baylor. That's all were talking about. It has nothing to do with either the cities of college station or Waco.

  9. on a somewhat related note..

how is Shell getting out of its lease at 2 Shell Plaza before its 2025 expiration?

didnt Chevron just sign a new lease in one of the neighboring towers to house some of its new/relocated employees? if so, i wonder if Chevron can back out of that agreement similar to however Shell is getting out of 2SP.

You don't get out of a lease. You try and sublease

  10. Well say what you want and criticize away. im just passing along the info from a very, very reliable source who is close to the negotiations. Next time, I'll keep it to myself.

Not trying to bust your chops. I like the inside info on this site. But sometimes rich people think they know everything. Here's an example both of us might appreciate. A few weeks ago a bunch of rich people swore nick Saban or job gruden were going to be head coach in Austin. ; )
