  1. This was W-A-N-T-A-D-S which was the Houston Post classifieds.
  2. Did anybody else get goose bumps watching the movie Tarnation? Both for the incredible subject matter - but also secondarily the old video clips of Westbury and other parts of Houston? Rent it now if you haven't seen it. (As for the high school musical production in the show, it has a fictional name in the movie - but it was Westbury HS as I understand.)
  3. The one on Edgebrook....I am thinking it was a dry cleaners.
  4. I heard that it will be replaced by a Super Target. Don't think that I have seen that in print - just word of mouth. Don't diss Pasadena Town Square - it's no Galleria - but for heaven's sake, it has Foleys, Sears and Dillards, and a Mervyn's across the street. I'm really surprised...since I can't think of any other mall that is not located next to a freeway.
  5. Regarding public transportation - anything you can get that would involve a "straight shot" to UH would help immensely. When a transfer of buses is involved, a 10-15 minute auto trip can easily become a 60-75 minute bus trip -- the wait for your initial bus ride, bus trip one, waiting time at the second stop, and bus trip two. (Very few bus corridors have the ridership to justify high frequency service.) Then of course at UH you may have a 10-15 minute walk to your class - although the good thing there is that you will be closer to your class at the bus stop than you would at your parking place! With that consideration, 2016 Main won't be a bad deal because you will be very close to a direct line bus to UH (if I recall correctly). GOOD LUCK...and have a great visit next week. PS - The stadiums...that is the old Astrodome (round) on the right and the new Reliant Stadium (Houston Texans) with the roof open - just next to it on the left!
  6. I remember all those - when we lived in east Texas, it seems like the Safeway stores had "Gold Bond" stamps.
  7. You're fast! And if I remember correctly, you could dial 222-71xx (anything for the last two numbers) and you would still get it - so in the days of the old rotary phones, I got in the habit of dialing 222-7111.
  8. OK it seems like there was a Globe store on 59 North (maybe near Little York) that also had the name Jubilee City at one time. I remember going there with my grandparents. I think the building still stands.
  9. If I recall correctly, the original name was the (hard to pronounce differently) PALMS CENTER. Later after it was snatched up for offices, community center, etc., the new signs read PALM CENTER.
  10. OK...who recognizes this phone number: CApitol 2-7171
