  1. Red, I disagree with you pretty often, but I still think you're an awesome poster, so I guess that says a lot.
  2. I've been to both the 1960 near Stuebner Airline location and the 290 at Spring Cypress location. I don't have a problem with a restaurant being a chain if the food is good.

Just saw your post count. Did I miss "RedScare Day?" Stay thirsty, my friend.

To: Dallas From: Houston Because, who is there that you'd actually want to do in Dallas?
  5. I was Googling for a forum where traffic/transportation issues in Houston were discussed.
  6. I get "that special feeling" just looking at those photos.
  7. Tha horrah! They would never use stinky coal! They're putting solar panels on the roof, dude!
  8. It doubt it would make a difference in the neighborhood in which I'm buying, you're right. But I bet it would make difference in some inner loop neighborhoods, where there can be vast differences from block to block that a "foreigner" wouldn't pick up on.
  9. Ditto. Guess I've gotta turn in my "Child of the 80's" membership card. And you're right, "Pitchmen" is surprisingly entertaining.
  10. I know that a study last year recommended that the eastbound left turn bays from the SH99 southbound frontage road intersection be extended, but I don't drive in the area, so I don't know if that's what is being done.

Man, if we built that huge dome over the city, it would fog up in a hurry.

    Damn, it's HOT

It sprinkled for about 30 seconds in Cypress. Might as well not even have happened.
  13. A minor league team would not splinter the Astros' fan base. People aren't going to stop being Astros fans and stop going to their games just because there's a minor league team in the area. Sports fans have a major league mentality, where anything beneath the highest level of competition receives more of a niche fan base. A suburban minor league team will draw from those suburban residents, primarily families with kids who aren't going to drive all the way into downtown and keep their kids up late during the week. Those people weren't going to that night's Astros game anyway.
  14. I mourned the death of Michael Jackson 20 years ago.

The Jersey Village area got some rain yesterday afternoon. It looked like it was going to make it out to Cypress, but it was just a head fake. The high on my (shaded) porch yesterday afternoon was 102.9 F. Question for the meteorologically inclined: it seems that we've been getting some of the spotty afternoon showers this week, which hadn't been happening the past few weeks. Is that a sign that the high pressure system is weakening?
  16. I'd be interested in seeing what kind of structural retrofitting would be required. I'd be pretty surprised if the answer was "none."
  17. WOW! Thanks for sharing these. Some of your photos of the St. Peter's exterior do a fantastic job of conveying a sense of scale.

    Damn, it's HOT

At my house in Cypress I have a digital thermometer in the shade. It was still 97 F at 8:30 last night. The "For Sale" sign in the front yard is the only thing keeping the grass alive.
  19. Just got my appraisal report for our purchase in Sugar Land. Value came back right at the sale price. Appraiser was from Plano!
  20. I meant the first one. Obviously, if you are willing to pay $300k for a house that everyone else is only willing to pay $200k for, then you are an outlier that the bank is wise not to cover. But if all the recent home sales around you point to the fact that your house is, in fact, worth about $300k, then you aren't an outlier, you are paying market value. The article that started this thread seems like it is referring to the first one, as well.
  21. That's all well and good, but then the banks need to be up front with people and state that we aren't going to let you pay full market value for properties, so don't waste your time and money.
  22. This thread title keeps making me think of terrorist or other conspiratorial activity. Gotta' stop reading Clancy.
  23. Call me crazy, but I keep going back to the principle of, "something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it." Well, if what people are willing to pay isn't dropping, why should the appraisal (allegedly the market value of the property) drop? The overall economic situation and the solvency of the banks have nothing to do with the value of an individual piece of property if it has willing buyers at a particular price.
