I wondered the other day why no one ever discusses old Sylvan Beach??? It's like it just faded from all memory.

We always went because of the old Dance Pavilion for weddings and parties over the years. (More interior photos to scan) The pavilion was always known for its spacious dance area and for the big bay windows that let you see out into the water. (very romantic)

Maybe we can find some links to show the old and new Sylvan Beach. There are some real killer historical pics out there. It was once a major attraction waaaaay before our time of course.

Check out the SAVE THE PAVILION site!

I found this drawing of Sylvan Beach Park done by Alfred C. Finn.  Both Joseph Finger and Alfred Finn were fantastic architects! They designed so many of Houston's historic structures.

I thought the architects were Greacen & Brogniez? I wonder if Alfred C. Finn's proposal did not get selected? Or if this is another area in the park?

"Sylvan Beach is a 30-acre-plus park and beach destination located in La Porte, and a $30 million master plan developed by Harris County’s Precinct 2 is envisioning a return to its grander roots.

“I want to bring an investment and enhancement to the park area to compliment the pavilion and really give it the prestige that it once had,” said Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia.

The park, located at 636 North Bayshore Drive, is currently anchored by two beaches- a fishing pier that measures approximately 1,100 feet over the water and the mid-century modern-style pavilion that has hosted generations of defining occasions. "
