texastrill Posted December 13, 2006 Share Posted December 13, 2006 well purpura pulls off a trade but gives up too much for a guy who has had one good season. jason jennings for taveras, hirsch, and bucholz. i didn't mind seeing any of those guys get traded, but for the right player (when it was garland, I was ok with it). I guess after pettite, purpura was desparate, and now we have a guy that has only 1 year left on his contract.What a rip!Still, wheres the run support? He raised his kids here in Houston, too.Clemens used to live in Katy in the 80's/ most of the 90's. (not sure exact year that he moved) I graduated high school in the early 90's and can remember friends of mine who worked at Randall's as sackers getting a $50 tip each (2 guys as it was a big order) one day. I also remember that he used to sit outside his house on Halloween and sign baseballs for trick or treaters. My neighbors kids played baseball w/ his kids when they were younger and an old coworker actually taught his wife (Debbie) as a child - I think in Spring Branch. So yes the Clemens call Houston home. I was thinking his signing was to go with the posibility that he could eventually replace Biggio at 2nd once he decided to retire, but it's only a 1-year contract. The move brings the Astros depth, but also a lot of questions as to who will be permanent starters. If Ensberg has an All Star year again, Everett's powerhouse shortstop defense stays on top, Berkman's still on top, and Biggio guaranteed at second, what will Loretta do with the infield? I'm sure Loretta will be a utility guy for the infield. How about letting him spend some time at SS? Lord knows we need hitting there and this guy's defense is pretty solid. There might be some room for change in the OF. Trades of course can be made any time before the trade deadline, so who knows. I don't know if the Astros are done on the free agency side of things. The guy was useless last year. He certainly isn't worth 16 million. I hope Roger doesn't return either. He is greedy. Didn't these guys come back to Houston a few seasons ago mentioning that money wasn't an issue and wanted to play for their hometown. Well, i guess money is now the issue. I'm tired of Roger playing games. He needs to get lost and the Astros need to look for young talented free agents out there. They blew it with Carlos Beltran. I think they need to get a few easy series (like the pitt one should of been) to get roger back. I think roger may spark the team a little, it seems to have done that the past few years.
