  1. I was wondering, are there any plans to build a light rail line to the "uptown houston" area? it would be really cool and with the west loop cursed by an ancient indian burial ground to have terrible traffic, i could see a lot of going to a park n ride and riding metrorail over there. PS: how do i edit my posts?
  2. Just happened to be driving by and I spotted a huge crane behind (I think) the Men's clubor the Marriott garden inn. I couldn't quite tell what it was doing there aside from just quietly sitting there.
  3. Drove by a sign today at the Lakes on Post Oak complex near Hidalgo and McCue (across the street from Nordstroms). It appears from the site plan that they are going to place retail into the existing parking garage and and some surrounding the part next to Hidalgo...what do you guys think of the renderings?...and on a sidenote the sign said it was being done by Hermes Architects, but couldn't find anything on their site about this. http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/2596/cimg3037xo5.th.jpg http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/38/cimg3038is5.th.jpg http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/3883/cimg3036gm7.th.jpg
  4. Another hotel proposal for this area. Anyone have more on this one? Here's whats on the site as of now. SubdivisionPlatPDF_VHA15031_PLAT-.pdf
  5. Last week I took a few photos of the Hyatt House Houston/Galleria At 3440 Sage Road. Here are the two pictures I took:
  6. This week I learned that Kelsey Seybold had a satellite clinic in one of the three-building Galleria Office Towers. The office complex was originally developed by Hines and is now managed by Colvill Office Properties. Galleria Tower I is at 2700 Post Oak Boulevard. Galleria Tower II is at 5051 Westheimer Road. Galleria Financial Center is at 5065 and 5075 Westheimer Road.
  7. Will this replace the apartments at the NW corner of Post Oak & Uptown Park Blvd? http://powersbrown.com/urban-design-mixed-use/mixed-use/rd-uptown/#/ http://powersbrown.com/wp-content/gallery-bank/gallery-uploads/o_18prd5h5f132i7012k11idffktc.jpg http://powersbrown.com/wp-content/gallery-bank/gallery-uploads/o_18prd5h5fv5o18kd74j3b71b7ud.jpg http://powersbrown.com/wp-content/gallery-bank/gallery-uploads/o_18prd5h5fiare5nkmb1etq5fge.jpg
  8. Barry's Pizza closes after nearly 40 years https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2020/05/27/barrys-pizza-restaurant-closes.html Barry’s Pizza has closed. The 37-year-old Italian restaurant at 6003 Richmond Ave. announced the closure on its Facebook page May 26. The restaurant directly cited the coronavirus pandemic as the reason for the closure. The restaurant closed March 28, with a sign saying “Hibernating,” and never reopened. Barry’s William P. Hobby Airport location is listed as temporarily closed on the airport’s website.
  9. I've driven past the Univision 45 Houston Broadcasting Station located at 5100 Southwest Freeway a thousand times. Never thought about stopping by and taking some pictures of the satellites. Photos from today.
  10. Saw this in the Houston business journal today. Mentions a 20 story tower by the Novati Group (same company that bought the BofA tower downtown). http://houston.bizjournals.com/houston/sto.../25/story1.html
  11. I walked by and saw these were being demolished today. Has this site been sold? I know Swamplot mentioned it was being put on the market last September. http://swamplot.com/has-everyone-cleared-out-of-the-winhall-condos-too/2014-09-10/
  12. From the today's edition of the Houston Business Journal (Jan. 27th) http://assets.bizjournals.com/houston/blog/breaking-ground/Astoria-Exterior.jpg I wrote a story in the Jan. 27 edition of the Houston Business Journal that details plans by Randall Davis and Roberto Contreras to build a new condominium tower in the Galleria area using $40 million from foreign investors through a federal immigration program. We ran a rendering of the 23-story Astoria, which is designed to have 55 condos, but did not have room to show other projects developed by Davis. The owner of Houston-based Randall Davis Co. has developed and redeveloped numerous residential buildings over the last two decades in the Houston area. Click on the slideshow to the right to see some of his other projects. Webcam: http://oxblue.com/open/transwestern/5oaks Latest rendering and info: http://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/real-estate/article/Galleria-area-tower-has-global-backing-5373796.php http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w208/houtosme/AstoriaLarge_zps268e5287.jpg
  13. I just heard the latest demo rumors. Apparently the Roll-N Saloon At 4200 San Felipe Street, Houston, TX (or rather the little strip center it's in) is slated for demo and to be replaced by an 'upscale retail center.' Could this be part of another project? I have zero confirmation, but my buddy at work just read it on his Houston Aggie alum forum. Too bad. That's the sort of neighborhood bar I wish we had more of. LeRoy Melcher / Melcher Investments.
  14. Ernest Bel Fay lived next to his brother Ernest Fay. In the 1920s/1930s they both an 18-acre plot in the Uptown/Memorial area located at 105 North Post Oak Road. Decades later, his house now serves as one of the buildings on The Fay School campus. The "star architect" John F. Staub designed the home. https://www.thefayschool.org/ Here's a photo of the old house back in the 1930s.
  15. I was doing some research today and came across this quote in a New York Times article from the 80's: I think a lot of people in Houston don't realize the significance of these buildings.
  16. From the Houston Chronicle, 28 Dec. '08: When finished, the .09-acre patch of land near the Galleria will be the city's smallest park. Too small even for a basketball court, Post Oak Lane Park might be big enough for a game of horseshoes, a few benches and greenery. Using its power of eminent domain, the city of Houston seized the land for the park from brothers James and Jock Collins last year. Officials claimed there was a "public necessity" for the park in the Uptown area, despite the fact that a much larger one
  17. I can't find any pictures, or maps, about the old Gerald Hines and R.E. Smith development a long the West Loop South. The building(s) could have been a long San Felipe Street? Perhaps the old business park was the first go-around at The Galleria? I know someone on HAIF has to know more information. Do any of the buildings still exist? Aerial photograph of the Galleria Area from the 1970s.
  18. Finally found a good picture of the Albert Bel Fay house located at 99 North Post Oak Lane. The house was built alongside his brother's mansion, Ernest Bel Fay which is located at 105 North Post Oak Lane. In the 1930s, brothers A.B Fay acquired 8.29 acres while E.B. Fay's site was 7.26-ares. John F. Staub was the architect for both homes. Ernest Fay was a lumberman, while Albert was an oilman. Aerial photograph of both homes. Albert's home was situated on top.
  19. Houston-based AmReit has bought Uptown Park, a Galleria-area retail center developed by Giorgio Borlenghi's Interfin, for $68.8 million. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/3208551
  20. That’s for the interchange project right? However, just west of 610 and Westpark there’s a bent that’s been constructed perpendicular to the Westprk Tollway. I assume it’s for the BRT which I guess means it’s gonna have an elevated section that goes above 69? Must be why they cleared out the Chick-fil-A there on Post Oak/Richmond
  21. Somebody posted this on SkyscraperCity, and I thought it was a really neat picture. Did anybody here take it? If so, it's awesome!!
  22. San Felipe Plaza, Sunset, originally uploaded by zoomanderson1. San Felipe Plaza bids adieu to another day in Houston. The architect, Richard Keating, once told HAIF that it was one of his favorites. Shame about the location, though. It so often gets overlooked. A little closer to Uptown or downtown would have done wonders. Thanks to zoomanderson1 for the photo from the HAIF Flickr group.
  23. Noticed an outlined development on a property flyer. The old office building on Richmond was once a planned to be a robot brothel that fell through. https://www.loopnet.com/listing/5615-richmond-ave-houston-tx/14016727/ Highlighted in green on the left https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/5440-Richmond-Ave-Houston-TX/18710651/
