    I think its a great location. The convention center area is a very vibrant area now with lots going on.

    A vote on the W hotel will be held today. "Houston First is expected to vote today on deal that could bring a W hotel to downtown Houston. The hotel would be built atop the Partnership Tower, Houston First's new 10-story office building next to the George R. Brown Convention Center. At its board meeting Thursday afternoon, Houston First will consider a preliminary agreement with developer Texas Hospitality Partners to build the hotel. The city's convention arm solicited proposals in 2014 from developers who could build the hotel, which was in the original plan for Partnership Tower.     I'm going on my 3rd year at 500 and love it. It can definitely get crowded during Astros home games, especially during the playoffs/world series, but getting to the parking garage on La Branch isn't bad at all. Its fun walking around to the nearby bars and restaurants on gamedays then just walking (or crawling) back home.

    FYI - I reached out to Finn Hall on FB to see when they would open and they replied saying that they didn't have a set opening date yet because of delays. Looks like we will have to wait a little while longer...

    I just checked street view on google maps from April 2016 and it has the lofts opportunity sign there so its been there a long time.

    Sorry to bring up an old wound, but the Lancaster hotel is obviously going through renovations per the article below, but didn't realized it was sold to new owners a month before Harvey. So the previous family who owned the hotel tore these old buildings down and then sold it. Now I'm mad all over again... "When the storied Lancaster Hotel reopens in August, it will be with a new look and a new image as perhaps the city's most artful hotel. Purchased last year by the Shinn family -- they own Magnolia Lodging, a handful of hotels in the Dallas area -- the Lancaster was already facing a renovation to update its exterior with a coat of taupe paint and deep navy blue awnings and an interior redesign to return it to its Regency-style beginnings. (Magnolia Lodging is not related to the Magnolia Hotel or Magnolia Ballroom.) New owners purchased the hotel a month before Hurricane Harvey Until the Shinn family bought it, the Lancaster had always been operated by DeGeorge's descendants.     Houston Open is proposed to be held in Memorial Park in 2019 for the first time since 1963. We will see if it happens. "The Houston Open, the Bayou City's annual PGA Tour stop, is proposed to be held in Memorial Park in 2019, bringing the tournament back within city limits. The tournament could relocate from the Golf Club of Houston, which is in Humble, to Memorial Park Golf Course next year, according to proposals that outline the plan obtained by the Houston Business Journal. The move comes after Mayor Sylvester Turner said in April 2017 he wanted to return the tournament to Houston. Still, the Houston Open remains without a future date and title sponsor, valued at around $8 million to $12 million a year, after failing to find one for its recent tournament starting in late March. "This move would place the tournament on centerstage in downtown Houston, creating a central location for the city to rally around," the proposal reads.     No, they'll only close down the surrounding streets for festivals on the weekends. Louisiana is a major thoroughfare that connects to I-10 out of downtown. Looks awesome and I love the fact that a restaurant is also going in. With the Bank of America building's renovation across the street, which will also include a restaurant, this will be great for the area.

    Just my opinion, but the issue I see with the Shops is the design and the average pedestrian has no clue what's inside, similar to the Houston Pavilions/Greenstreet, because it is enclosed. I've lived downtown since 2016 and haven't been inside since I worked on a project nearby back in 2014, but I frequent many restaurants that are open to the street all over downtown as I'm walking by. Pappa Bros Steakhouse is always packed in the evenings and is located in the same building as The Shops, but its at the ground level and open to the street. I LOVE the fact that 5 Houston Center is re-purposing this corner into a nice restaurant and patio. Hopefully this trend continues with buildings downtown as the residential population and other activity increases.

    I love this development. Great infill with ground floor retail. Hopefully this trend continues in the Washington Cooridor.

    Yea this project and the new park will definitely spur a lot more development in this part of downtown.

    How much of the 32.9% vacancy has to do with The Catalyst, Alexan, Aris, Eighteen25, and 1711 Caroline just opening toward the end of last year? I can't imagine if downtown was doing so poorly that the new high rise across from Marriott Marquis and Camden's new high rise would have given their construction the green light. My balcony faces the Catalyst and I've noticed in the past month more people moving in so it will be interesting to revisit these numbers later in the year.

    This lot is my favorite undeveloped lot downtown right now. Hopefully a huge mixed use project gets built here as you mentioned.

    Interesting that it's three-fourths of a block. Are they building the park around the Good Year Service center or is that building a goner? Edit: Nevermind, I saw the image after logging into Biz Journals.
