  1. the funny part is that it WAS a cool fun place to go, but the food and service were subpar so i never really went after the initial opening period...

it is a cool venue so maybe something else worthy will come along.

What a novel (pardon the pun) idea - a bookstore in an old movie theater. Actually, that should be something very welcome in the Montrose as long as it was not just another Barnes & Noble. It doesn't have to be only new, commercially popular books. I suggest a specialty bookstore like those mentioned in this thread:

it already happened as you probably know when the Alabama Theater on Shepherd became The Alabama Bookstop then Trader Joes. I miss The Bookstop!!!!!!!!!!

  3. I love Post HTX and the location...

i tend to go once a week or so...in fact i am taking my buddy that is visiting from New Zealand tonight upon his arrival to get some food! (and will be there saturday for coffee and cars). I definitely think there is room (and a need) for this new project! and yeah i had never heard of Ace Hotels but wowsa totally looks up my alley for cool hotels that i like to stay in!

I go down Taft often and hardly ever saw cars at Cowboys and Indians so in my eyes it failed here and moved to a better location with better traffic which has helped it thrive. More eyes equal better location. As the commercial retail mantra always says, "location, location" it can make or break a business. This was a bad location for them so they moved. I think a little local coffee shop like Mercantile on Stanford and Hawthorne would thrive here.

you are right about that! I always LOVED Lil Bigs at the now Burger Joint location...it was always packed!!! them moving was the worst decision they ever made! may they r.i.p.

  5. i always thought that was so weird that they designed the new sign to be smaller than the old one so you could still see remnants of Present Company.

this place was amazing as Royal Oak and should have stayed Royal Oak dangit!

Hey all! Hope it is okay to once again announce my best friend Justin and his band Blue October (including my other best friend Matt, the bassist :) ) are coming back to 713 Music Hall at POST HTX! For now it is being announced as a standard 7-10pm show...

however there were rumors they were trying to make it another Houston's Music & Arts Festival / Blue Backs The Blue. Justin had hand picked the bands, the tattoo artist(s), barbers, food trucks and more all to support The Houston Police Officers Union "Assist The Officer"! The first one took place at White Oak Music Hall in 2019 where they took over the entire venue inside and out and was a huge sold out success! Due to covid the festival that was meant to be annual went on hiatus due to covid unfortunately...so we shall see if they can bring that back at this or another venue...and soon!

Anyway, Tickets go on presale this Friday 12/1/23! See ya there!!!  Blue October's Website/ Link to tickets here

Event: MARCH 2nd 2024 at 713 Music Hall - Hometown Houston Show!

  7. agreed....Nando's did an especially great job in creating a fun and standout design...really brings this plaza to life as i think i mentioned in my review...also, i mentioned their amazing Roasted Brussels Sprouts drizzled with PERi Ranch!!! OMG 🤤

also one note...regarding the huge space between Kenny & Ziggy's and Balboa Surf Club, while the facade of Arhaus is only like 70 percent finished, all the signage is up...which makes me ask...what in the heck is going into their old location!? please make it something useful...in fact i wish they would bring back Barnes & Noble there...

  8. Yeah man, i LOVE the Regal (Edwards) theater at Marqe. It is completely redone and wowsa...what a great movie going experience...

I have had the Regal Unlimited card since it's inception (2019) and go to the movies almost every week (even during the pandemic!)...anyway, the manager of the Marqe location said that yes, indeed, the Weslayan location would pretty much undergo the same renovations which is exciting...living across from the galleria puts me smack between both locations so i can just choose the best time of the film that works for me.

But again, go check out the Marqe location if you get a chance...it really is a first class theater experience now.

thanks @hindesky for all the awesome updates!
