  1. I read an article that the store is closing because younger family members had no desire to continue the tradition.
    I had not heard this, but I had the feeling that might have been at least a part of the reason. I never knew Dave, but I remember Ben and Herman from the early 50s. I knew Martin, although not that well. But I knew he was getting up near the age where he might want to retire. I hate to see Kaplan
  2. I just heard from my mom this morning that Kaplan's is closing its doors next month. If you are familiar with this store, if, like me, you frequented this wonderful store since the time you were a kid, and if you knew the Kaplan family over the years, then maybe you can understand how really sad this news was to me.

    I suppose it is tough for a specialty store like Kaplan's to compete with Internet buying. I guess this closing was inevitable. But it is like losing a member of the family for me.

  3. To get on the Larry Kane Show, I had to take dancing from a guy named Jerry Roe (I think) at Bill Mraz Ballroom on W 34th. Well, that's the way it was supposed to work. I quit taking the lessons before I got to go on the show.

  4. I was on their show in the 5th grade. A group of us from Love Elementary square danced at Woodland Park, and our group danced on the show which was taped at the Prudential Building on Holcomb.

    I was at a restaurant in Bastrop not long ago, and the owner was connected to many musicians. One of the posters in the restaurant was of Edgar Winter. I told the woman that I got my show biz start at the same place as did Edgar. She looked hard at me, and finally asked,

  5. Last week I had 4 tickets to the Texans game, and stupidly left them lying on the seat of the car while I ran in Home Depot. While I was in there, someone must have broken into the car, because there were 8 tickets on the seat when I got back.
