  1. It was often said of George Hermann that he had the first dollar he ever made. Other than a failed attempt to give a block of land for a charity hospital, he never gave a cent to charity.

    When he died in 1914, his gifts to Houston included Hermann Park as well as nearly $5million for his long desired charity hospital.

    BTW, the name Hermann was pronounced

  2. Do you have a photo of Pier 21 Restaurant? It was on Main or Fannin just south of Holcomb. The front center of the building was the prow of a ship.

    I went to a number of dances at Sylvin Beach including (ahem) both of my senior proms. Anyone ever go there before? Is it still in operation?

  3. Just a bit of trivia here.

    Northwest Mall and Almeda Mall both opened at the same time. They were duplicates of each other, not only in the architecture, but in that they had the same stores in each. All the shelves in all the stores were stocked exactly alike.
