I"m really happy to see this coming back from the dead. I don't think the loss of retail space is that big of a deal, small and large retailers come and go very often in the village. It's a tough retail market with the limited parking. I really hope they put some serious thought and planning into the public spaces as that can really be a draw for the walking public. dream

these guys have every right to build this project as it was initialy designed. i live in this neighborhood and i've been sitting on the sideline watching this unfold. this piece of land is not restricted, they have rights as property owners to get the highest and best use out of this piece of property. they were smart enough to buy a great property in a prime location. there is demand for what they are going to build and they recieved a permit to build this as it was originaly designed, submitted, and permitted. the mayor and city counsel had better realize they stepped beyond their authority and have interfered with these developers basic rights. they have hindered their ability to bring a viable development beyond the planning stages, the city has wasted buckhead's time and money. i wish we had zoning in place so we could regulate types of development inside the loop. but we don't have zoning in htown so anything goes. i want smart developement, head in parking, bigger/wider sidewalks, retail bundled with commercial, more paking garages and less parking lots, more green space, some side streets could be closed for pocket parks and community gathering areas. dream

Dream replied to suzerain's topic in Uptown and Galleria Area
Jenni's Noodle House is opening a new restaurant at the corner of Post Oak and Westheimer. We are looking for 3 amazing individuals to work at the counter to take orders, meet great people, and fill up their tip jar. Previous restaurant wait staff experience is a plus but not a must. Applicants must be willing to work full time lunch, dinners, and weekends. Qualities we look for in co-workers are fun individuals, non smoker, Asian food lover, dynamic personality, funny, open minded, and really just people that we want to be around every day. If you are looking for a job or a better job than you have right now and you think Jenni's Noodle House is right for you then we would like for you to send us a r -
i drove by today. it's a small box with a flat roof, very hard to tell what's going on behind all of the plants in the front yard. it is a mcm design, with contemporary lines, it also looks to have a big box on the roof, could be a skylight? very busy street in a bad neighborhood but for 65k you can get a cool house and fix it up with a kick butt alarm system. could be a good deal for an mcm enthusiast on a budget. dream

Is it just me or does the rendering look a lot like the failed Shamrock Tower from downtown a few years ago? For the record: I support the developers. Dream

There used to be a coffee shop in the comcast space a few years ago. They went out of business after struggling along for a few years. I think it was Midtown Bagel Coffee shop. I hope these guys know what they are getting themselves into. I would not want to take on Starbucks everyday. Dream

I think we should all get behind this building and be positive. This is going to be the best address in the city and a very impressive building. I've had enough high rise dissappointments the last few years. GO ATLAS! Remember, there are more super rich Americans and Houstonians today than ever before. There was an article on the front page of the NYTimes today about the VERY RICH leaving the Merely Rich Behind. The money and the buyers are out there and this development team keeps moving forward. I say, keep at it and I can't wait to see this building go up. Dream

Niche, I respect your well thought response and that you attempted to contribute to this thread. At least you have an opinion and think beyond just complaining about CVS. It does make business sense for CVS to face Fannin with higher traffic counts. It does not fit the ideal and mold to the romantic thoughts of pedestrian friendly dense urban midtown. But reality is vacant stretchs and suffering businesses. How can anyone ride the train and not see what is out of the window or not outside the window? I used Metro busses exclusiely for 2 years at one point in my life and I agree that the working class or less fortunate do use public transit, I've seen it with my own eyes. I was just one of the masses on the buses and enjoyed the anonymity of the experience. I've also been on our LRT about 20 times, I noticed the same thing. On the LRT there seems to be a lot of homeless catching free rides to Autrey House for brekfast and back to downtown for lunch/panhandling. Dream

So much for pedestrian friendly Main Street! Now everyone can walk down Main or ride the rail and see the back of a new CVS. The entire building is oriented to the car and traffic on Fannin, the front door and parking lot will face Fannin. What does everyone think of this new development in Midtown? How does everyone feel about rail now? Is this a huge setback for Main Street and Midtown? Why is so much of Main street retail vacant? Where are all of the businesses that are supposed to come to Main with the train? Why are national retailers/CVS ignoring the train and huge 10 to 12 foot sidewalks on Main street and facing their businesses away from Main? Will rail fail? Should Midtown keep spending public money to keep the pretty flowers and plants along Main Street or start investing money on marketing this stretch of vacant real estate? I believe in rail for Houston but seeing things like this make it very difficult to for me to understand or see the value of Main Street light rail to date. Dream

This is really bad news. I've been hoping this project would be the one that got built. It's a great building in a great location. Maybe Houstonians just don't get the high-rise living lifestyle. Dream

RIP deco diner, h town diner, pierce street grill. i hit the tri-fecta, a banner went up this week for all contents and property to be auctioned off in few weeks. i still say the only way a restaurant makes it on this spot is a hot dog/taco air stream trailer or a drive thru smoothie king. for the record all of you midtowners that talk about walking and supporting your midtown buisinesses on foot. i call bs and say no business can thrive in houston without appropriate parking. texans love their cars. dream

yeah, iv'e been to the hawthorne sbucks, it's the cruise capital of the gay internet scene. so i switched sbucks, the least cruisiest is the smith street location across from allen center. for the record i got hit on at the midtown sbucks on friday and the memorial location by wescott at 8am on sunday morning. i don't mean to sound like a biggot gay hater i just want some sugar in my venti drip without some guy freshing up his drink all in my space. stay in your seat cowboy i'm not interested. i hope you like the new midtown sbucks sullivan, it's a beautiful space with lots of windows. more street sidewalk views than parking lot views, it's a fresh change in the right direction for sbucks. i also really appreciate when an old building is redeveloped and made useful for the city and houstonians rather than torn down for another row of perrys. i'd like to see more redevelopment like this in midtown/houston. it's our history. dream

so the new starbucks opened about 10 days ago or so. the first time i was the only guy in there, next time half full and last friday packed. lots of gay guys cruising for other guys so look out if thats not your scene. more on that note when did starbucks become such an aggresive gay pick up spot. dream

Yeah, right after they change Hermann Park Golf course into a members only country club with 50k a initiation fee. Then they can give free memberships away to the people who won't buy the Mosiac condos across the street. Never gonna happen, just more apartments. Dream

"The developer said it pulled back on marketing the building because it's trying to get financing without pre-sales." What kind of BS is this statement from the developer about the condo tower? It looks and sounds like the condo is on hold, but the apartment tower has financing and is moving forward. Good news for the med center, but I got news for you, this area is more trendy 3rd ward/almeda street than musuem district it wants to be. Dream

Why don't you Jalepeno's lovers start a new thread in the restaurants section? This is the going up section not the torn down section and besides the place sucked. So back on topic, Is 2727 Kirby going to be built or will it face the same fate as Shamrock and Orion? Dream

What is the status of this project? Is it still in a planning stage? Where will the money come from to build it? Will the City Parks department maintain the skatepark if it is built? For the record: I think it's a great idea and I would love to see this built tommorrow. Dream
