  1. Brooks Brothers is a good one though. I get my son shirts there all the time in San Antonio.
  2. You people are too serious. I grew up in Cypress and my dad still has a house there. Lighten up. I like Pottery Barn Outlet and was hoping they would put one there. The closest one is in San Marcos. Actually the last part of my message was actually a second response. HAIF merged the two responses into one message. (notice the spaces in the message) I just happened to hear about the expansion on KSEV 700 this morning. If any of you listened you would have heard it too.
  3. Plano was a prototype store. The Woodlands West Walmart was supposed to be upscale. It is nicer than most of them. They are the highest grossing WalMart is their district. They had such high sales last quarter that every employee is getting $800 in Feb. My neighbor is a manager at that Walmart. I'm sure the new Walmart on Sawdust will be nice too. It is nice to go into The Woodlands West Walmart and not be greeted by vagrants or pregnant moms wearing torn up t shirts (has happened to me in other Walmarts before). It's the only one I'll go to now.
  4. No Pottery Barn outlet? oh fudge. Speaking of this.......did anyone hear that TX-DOT said there isn't any money to widen 290??? Man do I feel sorry for those future commuters in 10 years when everything is built out and there aren't roads to support it.
  5. My maiden name is Manganiello. My dad is full Italian from NE PA. Living in San Antonio and outside Houston, I can say there are actually better Italian restaurants in San Antonio than there are in Houston. Olive Garden and Carrabas don't count. They taste nasty to me. The proof for me is when I ask if they have gnocci. There's nothing comparable in the US to the NE USA style of Italian food.
  6. Didn't Anna Nicole's husband own that property??
  7. VA = Veterans Affairs GW I = Gulf War I DH = (sometimes) Dear Husband
  8. People don't hand out welfare checks. They used to be mailed but people's mailboxes were being raided. I think they are direct deposited into bank accounts now. (Although I don't know anyone on welfare to ask....but my DH gets VA from being in GW I and that's how his is processed)
  9. I know this isn't going to be very positive but oh well. Those train tracks and the airport were there LONG before GF ever broke ground. No one complained until GF was built and people felt blindsided. Look before you buy people!! We have 2 train tracks that intersect 1/4 mile from our house and it doesn't bother me at all.
  10. How do I get rid of these? Why are surveys sliding across my screen?
  11. I know it isn't supposed to be "The Heights". My point was made better with The Colony comment. Why get so upset?
  12. Funny how Red has The capitalized on his side avatar for "The Heights". And I didn't gloss over the first response. That's just how you spell the name. And if The Heights is supposed to be capitalized, then it should be. Just like these dumb "Holiday" tree advertisements. They are Christmas trees people. Same logic.
  13. http://candelaris.com/ Looks like some Houston boys. I was wishing for authentic NY/Italian.
  14. uh.....ok. It's The Woodlands with a Spring, Tomball OR Conroe zip code. No different than The Colony up near Dallas. Klein has a Spring zip too. You people nit pick over the weirdest things.......
  15. I stopped by on my way home from UH today. It wasn't as packed as the Cypress one was onit's first day. It was nice too. BTW - gas is 2.75 a gallon there.
  16. For those that responded to my questions about Cy-Fair, thanks for the input and direction. After mulling over my options, doing some more research and basically keeping my ear to the ground it looks like The Woodlands may be a better fit for my family. While I am still in love with the area, I have to look at my ability to upgrade from starter home to larger home and then to retirement home without a huge impact on my family every time we move. Now, I have A LOT of questions that hopefully some residents can help me out with. Due to budgetary restraints, I've been looking at townhouses (Alden), some smaller starter (read:needs work) homes (Grogan's) and some larger, older homes (Shenandoah). Traffic is one of my primary concerns. I will be working on Airline & Aldine Bender just south of Greenspoint. Also, 2 young kids (4 &7) so access to good and economical daycare is a must. ALDEN 1) How is traffic from Alden to 45 during rush hour via 242? What about 242 from Greenbridge and then out 1488? I'd say about 15 minutes 2) How are the townhouse communities in this area? Are they integrated into the neighborhoods well or do they just look like streets of duplexes? Don't know 3) How is retail support in this area? Grocery stores, general retail, gas stations, etc? Each village has it's own retail center with grocery stores (Randalls or Kroger) and several shops. 4) Specific to townhouses anywhere in The Woodlands...what should I expect to pay every month in addition to P&I, insurance, property tax and maintenance fees? I don't know 5) For those that live or have lived in a townhouse in The Woodlands, how was your experience? Anything I need to keep an eye out for going in? I don't know GROGAN'S 1) Same as above, how is traffic in and out during rush hour from say Sawdust & Grogan's? 15 minutes 2) Is this area more susceptible to flooding? Have any houses or streets been condemned? It is more susceptible but The Woodlands has a flood plan in place. Not to my knowledge. 3) Is this still pretty safe? Would you let your kids play in the neighborhood? 4) As above, what about retail support this far south? There is Grogan's Mill Village Center and then Market Street off Grogan's Mill father north. SHENANDOAH (West of 45) (don't know about Shenandoah) 1) Any drawbacks to this area other than no HOA and related fees? 2) Traffic doesn't seem to be much of a problem but I'll throw it out just in case, anything I need to be aware of? Other than the cops. 3) Flooding and/or other drainage issues? Is there city sewer or septic? 4) Are the neighborhoods maintained or is it starting to slip? Lastly, if push comes to shove, I may have to move into an apartment while I sell my house up hear. Are there any that I need to avoid? Rent budget is about $800 for a 2 bedroom. Also, are school transfers allowed? I would rather the kids go to one school the whole time. Sorry for so many questions but I haven't been in The Woodlands (other than for a concert) in about 15 years. I am planning another trip soon but with 87 getting close to $3/gal, I've got to watch my driving from Fort Worth. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I learn more but this is all I can think of for now. TIA There are several houses in The Woodlands under 150 K right now. If you are going to buy I would recommend a house instead of a townhouse. Check out this link: http://www.woodlandsnewhomes.com/index.cfm
  17. I thought that was a Brookshire Bros like 20 years ago. I know the one in Tomball has been there at lease since 88.
  18. What abandoned Walmart? Are you talking about the old Kroger?
  19. LMAO...I don't think anyone will be traveling from Pinehurst or Brenham. =P That doesn't make any sense!! We certainly aren't in an "underserved" area of Montgomery County. Where is Pine Island? <<Waller Town Center will serve the growing needs of families in Waller, Pine Island, Brenham, Pinehurst as well as underserved markets in developing Montgomery and Fort Bend counties.>>
  20. It's called redistribution of wealth. If your parents are poorer than most you get a hefty pell grant check to cover your expenses.
  21. Northern Italians are lighter than Southern Italians. My dad is full Italian and his dad is from the south and mom from the north. In their family you are either really dark or pale as a ghost. I'm pale. =)
