  1. I am an owner of firearms. I am a hunter and life long member of the NRA. I firmly believe that more gun control is stupid. Gun control punishes only the people that would abide by the law in the first place. Any bastard clown of a politician that speaks in support of further gun control in this country should be slapped and run outta office. I really do not wish to give any politician anymore control over the private affairs of law abiding citizens than they already have.

  2. a little off topic, but since houston has so much more room, and NYC is basically at capacity, do you think houston could ever catch and pass NYC in total towers/people, also when? and how about the other chicago and LA as well.

    I hope not!!

I like the tall towers to be built here, but never on the scale of NYC. The NYC skyline only looks good under the cover of darkness. Those amount of towers here would certainly have a negative affect on wind and wind force. Those things magnify the effects of wind and generate thier own wind patterns.

I also never want to see the population of NYC placed here either. The larger the number of people the larger the chances of idiots and degenerates flowing into the city.

  3. It was about 10:30 in the morning, on a nice, bright, perfect day. The kind of day that makes you wish you could walk around to shops and cafes if only they existed in Midtown. But they don't because of the Greyhound station.

The first time it happened was about 4 years ago just after dark on a week night. A guy was walking across the street when he stopped in the middle of the street and let loose in front of me on the crosswalk on Webster. I do think he was severely drunk and/or "mentally disadvantaged". The guy Saturday was just being an a**hole.

I did have some friends' Midtown townhome robbed a few years ago by a guy who had been released from prison that morning. He said he had just started walking from the bus station, got hungry, and needed some money (he was caught in the act by a neighbor). They moved shortly thereafter.

Doesnt sound very good. I should hope 2016 Main has some sort of security to prevent undesirables from the bus station and in general from gaining ready access.

  4. Great. And keep stunting the development of Midtown within 5 blocks of the bus station.

I am perhaps a bit bitter as Sat morning I took my old Porsche out for a spin. I got caught at the light, and some guy fresh off the bus dropped his bag, walked close to my car, and pulled out his johnson in an apparent attempt to urinate on my wheel. (I ran the light). Here's the kicker - that's the second time that exact scenario has happened to me by the bus station.

Midtown will never become a desirable place to live as long as the bus station stays in its current location. That's just reality.

    Wow!

Thats a nasty experience, twice! I wonder how many of those people are mentally ill? I have been driving by there about once a week at different times looking at the area. I am interested in 2016 Main. Each time i have driven by the situation doesnt seem to be bad. I havent been on a weekend and maybe i should to get a better feel of the area.

Was your spin in early, mid, or late morning?

  5. Im all for it if they bring it to Houston. I dont give a rats ass about the other cities > :) > :)

They have plenty of empty holes between dwntown and the TMC that can accomodate them.

I can see Loiusiana raising hell over it sense much of thier gaming revenue comes from Texans

  6. I don't mind re-development of existing properties for something better.

Agreed, but im sure you know it isnt just redevelopment, its expansion. The traffic here is already a freakin nightmare and Xmas time, its even worst. I literally dread leaving my home and getting on FM 1960 and surrounding main streets. Absolutely insane!

  7. Psst...without HCTRA, we wouldn't even have the toll roads that we do. Tolled roads are better than none at all.

Pssst, thats bullocks! Quoting my British friends ;)

Toll roads are STUPID. Theres nothing today or tomorrow which will lead me to believe otherwise, period!

  8. I am just waiting for the state to atleast surface plans for commuter rail services. Although there are other suburbs that could use the service far more than Pearland, 288 is the perfect route to shoot a train to the Fanin South Rail Yard to connect with the Red Line.

I am a big supporter of rail within the city of Houston. I would like to see commuter rail as well, but not before rail within Houston has been established. If they establish rail within the city and to the burbs at the same time, there would be no objections from me!

Toll roads are absolutley stupid IMO. Just another excessive goverment revenue venture, which in this case, impedes the free use of the automobile, an American icon.

  9. I worked at 806 Main for 3 years right after college. I hated the tunnels. The streets were just so much more interesting and after sitting in a tight cubicle all morning, the last thing I wanted to do at lunch was walk down to some dreary underground hallway.

You really think the streets were so much more interesting in the past? The stench of piss and garbage i dont find interesting along with the exhaust from many many busses. I think the tunnels are a great idea.

I also dont think we should limit the number of businesses that operate in the tunnels, thats insane :(

  10. 2016 Main's maintenance fees are over $.80 psf. They do, however, include electricity. In nearly all circumstances you're better off renting downtown given the current rental marktet. I've heard good things about Humble Towers, which is all rental. Houston House is very livable and has a sort of dysfunctional charm. Also, check Har.com for residential leases. I believe there are a few units for lease in the Bayou Lofts (owned) for around $1100.

Thats for the input. I will look into the ones you suggested, but i must say, i would rather spend 1100 on a mortgage payment and not rent. I did see the 2016 includes electricity in the main. fee, that was one of the attractions for me. I will take a look around the area tomorrow to get a better feel.

  11. for guests i remember parking across the street for free in a lot (and on street in front), but since that is also across the street from the bus station, there are quite a few loiterers.

The area is basically the same except that METRO's headquarters across 45 uses the area under the pierce elevated for parking. it is now fenced so the homeless just moved farther down pierce a few blocks. sometimes i see 50 or so over by st joes. of course with the homeless ordinance they aren't suppoed to be there.

i think the residents are diverse. a friend who evacuated from nola lives there. he likes it but still doesn't venture very far. i think there was a little store in the building as well as a small washateria but his unit has washer/dryer. last time i was there i remember some dog poop out front. guess some don't pick it up!

Thanks for the feedback. Im going to head by there tomorrow and have a look around.

  12. most of the people i know there like it. the most negative think i've heard is the surrounding area. the mcdonalds/bus station etc doesn't make you feel comfortable. some of the units i've been in are quite small, but that would probably be ok for a student.

if your son is going to meteorology school, he can get some pointers from dr neil frank who lives in the building.

Ah a local celeb. lives in the building?

They havent cleaned the area up since the LRT?

Im looking at something in the 500-650 sq ft range. He doesnt need anything larger than that i think. Also, what about guest parking? Is there garage parking for guest or is it surface parking, and if it is surface, is there a charge? I should get out and go take a look around.

Also, does it have a good mix of ages that you know of? Thanks for the feedback.

  13. Anyone else have experiences with 2016 Main, recent or in the past. Recent experiences would be greatly appreciated. My boy has been asking for an apartment closer in town to cut his commute to school. Its right on the LRT and i think the LRT has a stop at his school. Would save me some money in gas each month too ;) I have been looking on HAR at 2016 Main. Im possibly interested in purchasing one of the units there. Better to buy than rent. Any comments?
