pineda
(from press release today from Klein ISD) The Klein ISD International Business Academy will open in August 2007 for ninth grade students. This magnet program provides a strong academic, business, marketing, and foreign language foundation for students who wish to enter the highly competitive global environment. To apply for the academy, students must complete an application that includes an essay. Parents will provide a signed permission form. And students must provide the names of two intermediate school teachers as references. The application items are due by noon on February 9. Students may visit with their guidance counselors for more information. The International Business Academy will be housed at Klein Forest High School. Students will attend classes during regular school hours and participate in enrichment activities and community service projects. Opportunities will be provided for interaction with members of the community who work in the international business environment.
Chris
I wonder why Klein ISD is locating all of the special campuses in the Klein Forest Zone. Vistas is 1/4 mile from KF, and now the IBA is at KF. I think programs like these should be located in the center of the district for everyones convienence. People who attend these programs from Klein Collins and especially Klein Oak have to travel twice the distance compared to if you attend Klein or Klein Forest. If these programs were in the center of the district everyone would only have to travel 10-15 minutes at the most.
pineda
I wonder why Klein ISD is locating all of the special campuses in the Klein Forest Zone. Not all are. The I.B. (International Baccalaureate) program is located at Klein Oak.My question would be:Is Klein ISD providing bus service to VISTAS and the IBA? They currently do not for the IB program. On a related note:Here's a press release from Klein ISD regarding Klein Forest's appeal of their AYP-"Klein Forest High School was recently granted an appeal of its preliminary 2006 AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) rating. An AYP rating is based upon requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind Act. As a result of the approval of the appeal, all campuses in Klein and the district itself now have ratings of "Meets AYP."To meet AYP, student groups on each campus must achieve performance and participation standards in reading and mathematics. The student groups are: all students, African American, Hispanic, white, economically disadvantaged, limited English proficient, and special education.Klein Forest students met all performance standards, but one group did not meet the required 95% participation rate for mathematics. An absence by one student caused the campus to have a 94% rate of participation in that group. The campus submitted proper documentation regarding the student's absence in the appeal, and its rating for 2006 was successfully changed to "Meets AYP." Chris
My question would be:Is Klein ISD providing bus service to VISTAS and the IBA? They currently do not for the IB program.Klein ISD will not provide Bus Service to Klein Forest for the IB Academy. Klein ISD does currently provide Bus Service to Vistas from the student's home campus. 4 Buses unload and load each day to and from Vistas. Klein should provide Bus Service to students going to KF for the IB Academy comming from Klein, Klein Collins and Klein Oak. Its only fair. VicMan
Heck, HISD provides bus services to magnet schools for any kids living 2 or more miles from the magnet campuses. Why can't Klein ISD?
pineda
I know that the bus service issue for the International Baccalaureate program at Klein Oak was to be addressed by the school board, but I don't know the outcome yet. Hopefully, they decided to provide bus service to and from Klein Oak for the students whose home campus is either Klein Collins, Klein Forest or Klein. Otherwise, it unfairly penalizes those students who might have qualified to attend the program, but had not transportation provided by the district. Chris
Klein ISD is very very unfair when it comes to Bus Service. Klein ISD has over 200 Buses, some that are'nt even in use. For example before Klein Collins, Schindewolf, and Kreinhop opened Klein ISD Subdivision Normandy Forest was zoned to Klein Oak, Hildebrandt and Lemm. Yes, transportation by the district was provided. When Klein Collins and Schindewolf opened they continued to provide transportation. Normandy Forest is separated by Falvel Rd and Ella Blvd from Klein Collins and Schindewolf. The Subdivision is across the street from the 2 schools but not really across the street. Its a pretty far distance between the 2 schools and the subdivision. Things changed when Kreinhop Elementary opened in 2004. Kreinhop was built on Ella Blvd but in between Ella Blvd and Falvel Rd. Normandy Forest is right behind Kreinhop by like 40-50 feet. When the school opened they stopped giving Normandy Forest Bus Service to all 3 campuses because according to Klein ISD "A subdivision can't be adjacent to a campus in order to be elligible for bus transportation". They discontinued bus service to all 3 campuses. Klein ISD should have just stopped transportation from Kreinhop since that campus is adjacent to the subdivision. Why stop giving bus service to a subdivision whos had it for 3 years. If Normandy Forest was'nt elligible to Klein Collins and Schindewolf, why did'nt Klein ISD take bus service away when those 2 campuses opened in 2001 and 2002? Klein ISD does some things in a way that is not understandable. This was also an issue on a former Klein ISD Community Forum when Kreinhop opened in 2004.
