Good information, pineda.

Another suggestion: Go outside and see if there's any trees whose branches overhang or touch utility lines. If so, call Reliant Energy and request a tree trim (or, if you're afraid they'll butcher a prized old live oak, call a private tree service). Many power/telephone/cable outages are caused by falling branches.

The time to do this is before a storm is predicted to hit. I used to work for the electric company, and as soon as a storm was announced, we'd get far more requests for tree trims than could be accomplished in a few days.
