silverartfox
Has anyone here recently built a freestanding art studio, workshop or garage?I need to have my studio up and running my East End back yard by the end of the year. Nothing fancy, more like an insulated shop building, 400-500 sq. ft, 9ft ceiling, concrete slab floor, finished walls, heat/ac, no plumbing. Attatched carport. Could be either frame construction with hardiplank exterior or metal prefab/modular. Architectural style isn't an issue due to the neighborhood and my pocketbook. An old garage on site has to be demolished and a storage shed moved.Anyone care to share thoughts on contractors, cost per sq. ft., personal experience with this type of project? Some contractors don't work in my part of town.Thank you for any replies.
RedScare
What you are describing is essentially an air conditioned garage. You can probably build that for $15-20,000. If you don't get too fancy, maybe even less. I may know someone who can do that for you. PM me, if you want his number.
nmainguy
You also may want to talk to mistergreen http://www.mgp2.com/. He recently built his studio across from the new Target on Sawyer.
TJones
You may want to try a HAIF member on here named jdogg, he is a contractor. I used to be but I have no time to build right now. Sorry. Red is right on the money also, might be able to get it a little cheaper depending on materials, and how "Spartan" you want to go.
