editor
Very interesting. Did the evacuees end up in particular neighborhoods, or were they spread out all over? The article mentions "Southwest Houston," but that could mean anything.
dbigtex56
"Texas, in the best role of traditional Judeo-Christian charity, provided benefits," Mr. Bond said. "I think it's time we get back to being a good neighbor and not a paid companion." Yes, we're good, God fearing whores with hearts of gold, Mr. Bond. Don't make me get all scrappy on yo' butt. We want our money. It's about time that this common-law marriage between Houston and New Orleans was recognized - or won't it be because it's not between One Man And One Woman? The Great Hizzy!
The article mentions "Southwest Houston," but that could mean anything."Southwest Houston" has become an ambiguous description and a very misleading one. More to the point, they're talking about Fondren SW and its near neighbors along Gessner, Airport and Bellfort. A smaller subsection of a much larger quadrant of the city. It's as misleading as merely saying "Manhattan" when you're talking about the lower East Side in particular or Brooklyn when you're talking about Bed-Stuy in particular. BWSchultz
Is Houston truly "plagued" by gang problems as the article suggests? I don't really follow the gang culture around here.
desirous
Is Houston truly "plagued" by gang problems as the article suggests? I don't really follow the gang culture around here.Maybe not "plagued," but it is not pretty either. Living on Hillcroft and Richmond, it feels like being at the frontline of a middle-class fortress under attack by poor people. The Gulfton Ghetto is only one mile away, across the Southwest Freeway, and their kids attend Robert E Lee, right down the street from me. I believe MS-13 operates out of Gulfton, and the general area is one of the major drug dealing centers of the country.
editor
So, what's the solution? It'll take the feds years to come through with any funding for more cops. Would anyone support a one-time tax increase with an automatic expiration in three years to pay for more officers during this transition?
