Blue Dogs
Howdy from the Alamo City HAIF Family. Here's a mega-discussion thread that I've decided to start on the happenings & on-goings at NBC 2 KPRC-TV Houston & we start off with NBC 2 KPRC-TV Houston reporter Taisha Walker announcing on Social Media today that she's leaving the NBC Station after 5 years. https://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2023/04/taisha-walker-to-leave-kprc-2.html https://www.facebook.com/KPRC2TaishaWalker/posts/634370415177697 Here's a video segment of Walker when she was on "Houston Life":
FilioScotia
Who cares? KPRC has been the SW Houston branch of the Greyhound Bus Station for years. Almost nobody ever stays there very long. He certainly doesn't look like he's 70.

ChannelTwoNews
Not that I really get hyped about this stuff anymore - but they launched it a couple of weeks back. Yes, the skyline is there, but there are multiple video walls so tons of things could be there really. Some of the photos of the skyline look generic of the "western wall". The aerial one for the morning shows looks nice though. Sounds like they have a desk for all but the 6 & 10 PM newscasts. Standing during the newscasts I guess is en vogue again. Something about it gives me vibes of a phone store. Not nearly as bad as Channel 39's set about 10 years back, but close. https://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2024/02/kprc-2-new-2024-studio-standing-room.html mikemcguff.com: KPRC 2 2024 studio - photos and more details 1

Will any of the other TV stations counter NBC 2 by doing something similar ?
hindesky
Frank Billingsley, the Houston weatherman who has been on local TVs rain or shine since 1989, is giving his last forecast. The popular meteorologist's last day on air at KPRC will be June 28. He confirmed the date in an email to the Chronicle. Billingsley joined KPRC Ch. 2 in 1995 as chief meteorologist after a six-year stint at KTRK Ch. 13. He was born in Little Rock, Ark. and began working as a TV meteorologist in 1982 in Roanoke, Va. That was followed by a year in Biloxi, Miss. before moving to Houston in 1989, where he's been ever since. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/lifestyle/article/frank-billingsley-weatherman-leaving-houston-kprc-19458258.php
ChannelTwoNews
Time does a number on you. I still think of him as the "new" guy on KPRC. I don't remember the specifics about how he was introduced back then, but I do remember that Roland Galvan (RIP) was the chief meteorologist for an extremely brief period of time prior. Had to only have been a few months after Doug Johnson left with his taped good-bye. That event in particular, and in hindsight, seemed to be the death knell for some of the longtime folks there. That said, I always thought he was pretty good in the role he has been in. He used to be on AIM a fair amount at work back in the day and left it on all the time. He would talk to people directly about the weather and his work and was super friendly and never gave off an attitude that it was a waste of time to talk to him. For my money, he really came into his own years later - I will never forget what he was doing during Hurricane Ike and then after. In the lead-up he kept advising against others who were "wishcasting" the storm to go elsewhere or magically drop in intensity after it became apparent that it was headed for the Houston area. A few days after landfall, he went up in Sky 2 over Galveston and the surrounding areas to check on people's property for several hours, even going back to refuel and go back up again for a while longer as more and more folks would call or email in. At any rate, his time off is well-deserved.
hindesky
KPRC 2 Houston has 12 staffers leaving July 1, 2024, after a buyout offer sources tell mikemcguff.com. This number includes the previously blogged about departures of legendary chief meteorologist Frank Billingsley and news director Bernice Kearney. These buyouts also include individuals who work diligently behind the scenes in various departments such as sales, engineering, news photography, and creative services. Some of these individuals even hold crucial management-level positions. Says one staffer, there goes a ton of leadership and knowledge at once. There has been speculation that KPRC 2 owner Graham Media Group was offering buyouts. https://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2024/05/kprc-2-loses-12-staffers-in-buyouts.html
