1102 Pinemont Dr

Recommended Posts

1102 Pinemont Dr was acquired by Gulf Coast Commercial Group in 2019. Built in the 1980's, the retail center on the property is undergoing / has undergone renovations.

Along with improvements, the shopping center was rebranded to The Common / The Common at Pinemont.

The Leader reported on the renovations and plans in 2021:

"The retail center at 1102 Pinemont Dr., which is home to Esther’s Signature Dish, is about to get a major overhaul.

Gulf Coast Commercial Group, a Houston-based firm specializing in retail development, management and leasing, bought the property in 2019 from Allen Family Investments. Gulf Coast recently announced plans for a project on the property’s nearly 3 acres called "The Common," which would create a namesake, central common, incorporating both green space and a renovated plaza.

The remodel is an Opportunity Zone project. According to the City of Houston, the Opportunity Zone program was created by the 2017 federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to encourage businesses to develop and invest in low-income communities in Texas."

And from a 2021 Houstonia article:

"Plans for the 38,000-square-foot, 2.98-acre Opportunity Zone project, which the developers are calling a “life style hub,” will be centered around a namesake common area—a green space and activated plaza, where the neighborhood can expect farmers markets, artisan pop-ups, and room for dining and fitness classes as well. While reimagining the current structure—two sprawling single-story buildings—architects Schooley Design have paid special attention to creating an architectural aesthetic and environment intended for the diverse communities that The Common will serve, but innovative all the same."

For fans of the late Throughgood Coffee, the Soul Taco food truck that used to be at Throughgood is the same Soul Taco that is opening a brick and mortar location in this development.  It will be nice to have them back when they finish building out.

Eater Houston published an article today about Soul Taco's move to a permanent home in Acres Homes.  The former food truck anticipates opening late summer at 1102 Pinemont Dr in commercial center The Common.

An excerpt from the article:

"When it opens at the end of the summer, the 2,700-square-foot restaurant restaurant will serve as an anchor for the 38,000-square-foot Opportunity Zone retail center, recently reimagined by Houston-based Gulf Coast Commercial Group. The restaurant will sit adjacent to a central common space in the budding multi-use development, where the Sugar & Cloth Color Wall, a colorful mural by popular Houston-based DIY blogger Ashley Rose, is on full display."
