Something is going in at 1920 Houston Ave. From Twitter yesterday:

1920 Houston Avenue is getting remodeled. Likely a new restaurant/bar? Was the former re:HAB bar. @swamplot

From Swamplot:

A reader caught some evening views of the corner and the sign announcing mixed-beverage and late-night plans for its little 1996 building (which names Spring Street Beer and Wine Garden as the incoming occupant). New owners (at least the 6th to purchase the property since 2005, per county records) purchased the property in the fall, and the Attack of the Killer Condos mural previously facing the Heights Hike & Bike Trail along Spring St. has already been painted over:

Cool. If this turns out like the rendering above, I may have a new drinking hangout.

Spring Street Beer and Wine Garden opens to the public this week.

From Eater Houston:

This week, Houston’s First Ward will become home to Spring Street Beer & Wine Garden, the city’s newest destination for brews and bottles.

The bar announced its arrival at 1920 Houston Avenue on Facebook earlier this week, after hosting a few soft opening events this past weekend. The new bar was developed in collaboration with Amy Felan, who formerly owned a popular wine bar called Cactus & Vine in Corpus Christi. That bar shuttered in 2016, according to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, when Felan decided to move back to Space City.

When Spring Street Beer & Wine Garden was announced back in January, its owners announced in a Facebook post that the new bar would offer a similar “low key, relaxed” vibe as Cactus & Vine. It will also offer lots of outdoor seating via a large covered patio that will be dog-friendly, on which diners can enjoy bites from a rotating schedule of Houston food trucks. As far as the booze is concerned, the bar will offer 25 different varieties of wine, more than a dozen beers on draft, along with a full bar and cocktails crafted by former Le Colonial bartender Sonia Thornhill.

Spring Street Beer & Wine Garden will officially open to the public on Thursday, October 19.

  • This topic was locked and unlocked

Spring Street Beer & Wine Garden closed June 19th. The bar & grill was located in the First Ward at 1920 Houston Ave.

Taking over the space are the operators behind Pour Behavior and Lincoln Bar The new owners also operate Be More Pacific restaurant, Conservatory (the forthcoming franchised location at 55West), and operate a bar at Understory.

The name of the new business will be announced in July.

closing right after the MKT trail finally reopened is such sad timing.  glad it'll be reopened, hope they don't try to make it club-y

I know many residents in the area and we would frequently go to Spring Street with them. I think it fit the area well. I also think most residents would also agree not to make it club-y. lol

I agree.

I do not think there will be significant changes to the former Spring Street Beer & Wine Garden at 1920 Houston Ave. Alrhough I haven't received a definitive answer about the direction under new management, I'm hoping it is not.

I also am uncertain if proprietors of Pour Behavior and Lincoln Bar are the sole owners or if there is a  partnership deal in place with the new owners. An entity filing seems to indicate other owners.

In regards to the new name under the bar's new ownership, it won't deviate much from the original one. The new owners submitted filings for the trade name Spring Street Bar in late May/early June.

There is nothing new in the article that hasn't been posted here already. However, Eater Houston shares a link to Spring Street Bar's Instagram. More information will probably be posted there soon.

Just rode by this on my bike today and it looks like they're building a traffic island in the middle of Houston Avenue. Does anyone know if they will be building more islands along Houston Ave, or is this just meant to protect pedestrians along the bike trail?

It's for the bike trail. I saw a post on Twitter about it.

The bar at 1920 Houston Ave has rebranded again. Following the rebrand of  Spring Street Beer & Wine Garden to Spring Street Bar in 2022, the owners have changed the bar's concept and name.

Around November or December, the bar rebranded to Breakfast Bar. The building was also renovated.

Breakfast Bar is an all-day brunch restaurant and bar.
