editor
Some of you may notice the site is a little slow today. Some of you may not. There are two unfortunate events at work.1: The server had to be shut down and reset about 10:00am today. That took the site offline for about 30 minutes. The machine ran out of swap space and had to be rebooted. This affected everyone.2: One of our connectivity providers is under attack. The HAIF server is connected to AT&T, Sprint, Global Crossing, Cable and Wireless, Level(3), and TeliaSonera. One of Level(3)'s nodes close to our server is under attack by hackers right now, so any traffic going through that pipe was extremely slow or non-existant for a few hours until it could be shut down. Now that it's shut off, all traffic is being routed through the other providers, which may or may not decrease you surfing speed depending on how your computer gets here. It's not even based on geography. It's far more complicated than that. For example, this morning at home I couldn't get through to the site at all. But here at the airport I have no trouble. Anyway, the Level(3) pipe is shut off until they regain control of their network.

Jeebus
What's the deal with all the hacking lately??
citykid09
Would this whole thing apply to Skyscrapercity.com too? They weren't working either.
YakuzaIce
It doesn't seem any slower. But there was one thread that took about 5 minutes to load early this morning. Other than that one incident everything has been fine.
dbigtex56
Is there a point to this hacking into internet systems? Can people steal bandwidth, for their own use or resale? Is it a form of terrorist attack?Or just bratty kids with too much time on their hands?
