Heightsite
Anyone know the plans for the work being done? There are retaining walls over the east side's concrete edge but nothing on the west side. A friend said the same is going on at the bayou under TC Jester.
Texasota
http://www.houstonbayougreenways.org/white-oak-bayou They are connecting to the MKT trail. Side note: your title is oddly phrased.
Heightsite
I've written "think before I write" 100 times....thanks for sharing the map. Wish they'd complete access UNDER Shepherd between 6th & 8th. Aside from the bayou, it's now a straight shot on 6th from Yale to Shepherd. fwki
The map is cool. They are going to drop some serious coin to take the "funded" extension of White Oak Trail from Stude Park all the way to the MKT Trail connecting on the west side of the old train trestle over the bayou. It looks like they ceased work on the North bank under Studewood just before the spring-fed creek that runs along Threlkeld. They'll have to span the creek then head steeply uphill right through highly-prized bird, bum and small mammal habitat. That creek roars during rain storms since it drains the entire Stude Addition, so the spanning bridge will have to be elevated and quite stout. Then they'll have to deal with Michael J. Fox and his SavetheReeds campaign. Maybe that's why they already started on the "unfunded" south bank trail right where they stopped on the north bank. A nice ferry service would be one helluva lot cheaper.

jamesw
I wish our bayou looked like that instead of a trapazoidal concrete lined drainage conduit...
fwki
If we didn't have our trapezoidal concrete lined drainage conduit, Evel Knievel couldn't make that jump. Edited March 16, 2013 by fwki
Fortune
Do you all tink there will be any beautification projects for white oak bayou ? Like tree planting or anything ?
tanith27
I think there are organized talks going on right now about ways to beautify White Oak. I suspect whatever comes of it will take years though. There has been a quiet group of volunteers in the neighborhood cleaning up Little White Oak and building nature trails throughout Woodland Park. Drop by this weekend for free food and walk through the newly created trails. You may be surprised.http://www.friendsofwoodlandpark.org/
