METRO Investigating Morning Rail Accident

METRO Safety and Police Department officials are investigating a collision that occurred at Capitol and Main in Houston’s downtown area this morning. Preliminary reports indicate a dump truck traveling west on Capitol ran a red light at Main Street colliding with a METRO light-rail train. Fifteen persons, including the operators of the vehicles, were transported by Houston Fire Department with non-life threatening injuries to Ben Taub and St. Joseph Hospitals. The train was derailed by the impact of the crash and the truck wedged on the patio of a restaurant.

Bus service (a bus bridge) is in place to assist passengers between the Downtown Transit Center (1900 Main) to UH-Downtown stations. This service will be in place until rail operations are restored for that area.
