lockmat
What was the "museum district" like before museums started popping up? Was it just grass or did it also transform? I'm sure proximity to the medical center and Hermann Park created some synergy there as well. For those who know the East End better, do yall think these are good locations where they'll be going in? Are they relatively close to eachother?edit: map of where the three museums would be http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?oe=UTF-8&ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=217756570002048854009.0004a1fae02dffd1ca3ac&ll=29.756163,-95.33972&spn=0.013785,0.019248&t=h&z=16 Edited April 28, 2011 by lockmat

With Ninfa's on Navigation, Moon Tower Inn, and a variety of artists studios/galleries anchoring the neighborhood, this is also an area that would be ripe for a nacent bar scene. Highway6
This probably deserves a new thread... but since this is here and active - chron has an article this morning about other planned east end improvements.http://blogs.chron.com/primeproperty/2011/04/street_makeovers_part_of_bigge.html
lockmat
This probably deserves a new thread... but since this is here and active - chron has an article this morning about other planned east end improvements. http://blogs.chron.c...t_of_bigge.html The district envisions more than just new sidewalks. A redesign of Navigation would include turning the street, which currently accommodates four lanes of traffic, into a more walkable space with only two lanes of traffic. The other lanes would be used to add parking and to expand the esplanade dividing the street into a plaza and park space with benches, gazebos, trees and kiosks. ... Navigation sees about 7,500 cars a day, she said, adding that the district is planning a traffic study. They already know how many cars go through there, what is the traffic study for? Traffic flow or the impact that downsizing the road capacity would lead to? I really don't understand the expansion of the esplanade either. Is it that big that people would want to enjoy their time in the middle of a road? http://www.greatereastend.com/cms_templates/cmst_img_popup.cfm?ContentID=115&bTN=0&iPos=1&bLH=1&bLW=1&HL=680&WL=510 Edited April 28, 2011 by lockmat

Still not entirely sure what the reality of this will look like. While I didn't read the entire article, I read someone mentioned about "trolley's", is that meant as those going along Navigation and canal to feed to the Light rail there?I guess I better read a bit deeper on this later and see what the time lines are and I think my purchasing in the area just got a bit more urgent so I can be the increase in property values. For their benefit, of course.

Good to know. To think I lived just blocks from the Dorrington location for over two years and didn't get by the museum though I knew it was there. Shows how we can take things for granted. Oh well, I'll just have to travel a little further once I commit to go.
