kjb434
Well, it may be good to have both together. In general, many elderly people love chicken.I see the line up at Popeye's all the time. Also, isn't this like the 4th or 5th retirement home in the area. I guess I only go to the Popeyes in Sugar Land (but never really saw many older people eating chicken.) Isn't there a retirement home on Richmond next to the Super Walmart in the area? (a new Retirement center) but I see where your getting at with the retirement centers being built up. We need an outside Arby's in the Westheimer area (and Dairy Queen)!!! BUT I am glad an "Applebee's" is Popping up at West Oaks Mall!!! About time the mall had something on the property that was new!!! -and I can't wait for the "DQ" at West Oaks too!! Too bad the mall has gotten to be a bit too boring for me Its mostly all clothes retail. They got rid of Carlton cards and Kaybee Toys

Casual Observer
Westchase & the Ashford area is home to quite a few nursing homes, assisted living, senior communities, and children nursing homes. It seems that more are coming too.As for Dairy Queen on Westheimer, there is one at Seagler & Westheimer just inside the Beltway.Kaybee Toys drove themselves out of business by marking-up everything. The rest of West Oaks Mall looks great. It remodeled just nicely. I expect to see more growth around that area from I-10 to US59 due to all the new communities like Woodbridge, Glen Laurel, & Village of Oak Lake. I can easily see West Oaks Mall getting some more restaurant parcels around the mall. Also, the Drafthouse is probably the coolest venue on the westside of town.Oh yeah... Raising Cane's rocks. BayouCityGirl
What's around Seagler...Sorry for a stupid question. I actually meant down near my way (I am more closer to the Dairy Ashford/Wilcrest area) I go to West Oaks frequently. Even though Memorial City is the same distance probably from where I am, I think West Oaks is more of my "home mall" y'know? I do love the "Hot Topics" they have at West Oaks though and the remodeling is beautiful!!! too bad there is no book store (formly B.Daltons), no music store (Wherehouse Music) and no toy store (Kaybee) and I heard Disney Store is next! I'm not a big clothes shopper but sadly there is nothing for me to really look at in West Oaks. Mostly shoes and clothes. The theatre is nice but I go to Tinseltown more so then Alamo. Casual Observer
Carillion Shopping & Dining Center is one light down from Seagler at Briarpark. Infact, Seagler was just extended to Richmond, from Westheimer, for the West8 development project. Its a couple hundred acres, I believe, that is supposed to be targeting some commercial & retail development. There's also a nice little traffic circle in the middle of the lot now connecting Meadowglen to Seagler and then letting it (Meadowglen) dump out on to the Belt feeder. Tinseltown is riddled with kids & thugs. Also, it seems the management has given up on keeping the place clean and first class. We usually end up at the AMC on Dunvale (I know, not much of an improvement). The only issue with the AMC is that even though the theatre is nicer on the inside (than Westchase Tinseltown), I always feel less safe outside in the parking lot, mostly due to the thugs that run up and down Richmond on the weekends. As for West Oaks, they need to step up their management as well. I agree with you that they are lacking a good toystore, bookstore, & musicstore. BayouCityGirl
I go to Tinseltown first showing on a Saturday. All the kids are in bed. I don't bother go after 5 PM (prices are too steep like most movie theatres) and driving all the way down to Alamo is well I don't know I see Alamo as a date place and more often then not I'm going to theatres by myself. Sad I know. I feel if I go to Alamo drafthouse I want to go there to spend time with a friend and eat. I know where your talking about now. Carrillon Center. I used to work at the Musical theatre (next to the Subway) I hardly go down Seagler I guess that's why I haven't heard about it. BUT its closer then I thought. WHOHOO! I heard West Oaks raised their rent (which is one of the reasons one of the cel phone kiosks who used to be there pulled out) she was given last min notice. What does West Oaks need that they can improve on other then the that listed?
Casual Observer
What does West Oaks need that they can improve on other then the that listed?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Not too much, maybe an A & F for the kiddo's, a decent music store like Sam Goody or FYE's, and at least one toy store. I don't think you'll be able to get a big bookstore anchor in there due to the Barnes & Nobles across the street. The existing anchors for the mall are good ones now like Sears, Dillards, & JC Pennys. They're not the most extravagant stores, but they definately have the home goods you need.I think the growth in that area will fuel the mall to step up. They do have heavy compitition from First Colony & Memorial City however.
