NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Don't mess with Texas! Cities in the Lone Star State were among the fastest growing places in 2009.

Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston gained the most new residents of any city -- netting more than 140,000 each -- according to the Census Bureau's annual metropolitan area population estimates released on Wednesday. Meanwhile, music center Austin posted the second highest growth rate among top cities -- 3.1% -- just behind Raleigh, N.C.

Natural Increase - 69,479

+140,764 and 2.5% from last year.

And thought this was an interesting quote by "MarkL2023". Seems to believe the economy in DFW will start surpassing Houston soon:

A million in 6 years would only be an increase of 14%, btw. I can easily see it being more than that (especially if Atlanta still cannot figure out their problems by then).

Not sure if DFW will distance itself from Houston. As far as economy goes, Houston gained on DFW this decade and expanded it's lead as the decade went on. You can see how Houston picked up its growth towards the end of the decade, where at the beginning, DFW was outgaining it by a larger margin.
