editor
A couple of months ago I took the train into Vancouver for a few days to do some pre-Olympic stuff for a client. Here are some photos of the city and its buildings from that trip. I turned a bunch of these and other Vancouver pictures into free computer desktop wallpaper. You can download them at a new web site I've started called Pacific Northwest Architecture Info: http://www.pnwarchitecture.com/Features/Wallpaper.php
Jax
Wow, you make Vancouver look awesome. I haven't been there since I was about 12 so it's hard to remember. Thanks for posting these.
AtticaFlinch
Nice. How long did you have to wait to find such a clear day?
tanith27
Ahhh, my home. Good to see it again. Can't wait for it to shine during the 2010 Olympics.
editor
Nice. How long did you have to wait to find such a clear day?I got lucky and it was beautiful the first two days I was there. The rain didn't come until the third and fourth days, and that was fine because I could get some work done back at the hotel. Then I took the train back to Seattle.Ahhh, my home. Good to see it again. Can't wait for it to shine during the 2010 Olympics.Yeah, it's going to be great. If you haven't already seen it, I posted photos of the Olympic venues here: http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/index.php?showtopic=21969
Highway6
I wish the Winter Olympics would go back to being in the same year as the Summer Olympics.Growing up, every 4 years was The Olympics - Winter and Summer, and a Leap Year. That was a big deal for a kid. That was important.Now.. the winter games are almost an after thought.. It's like off-year elections.Having Olympics every two years along with the annual announcing various stages of determining which cities are in the running or being chosen for Olympics a decade from now.. It's all overkill. It's no longer rare or special when its in the news every year.-- Love the photos.

The IOC's primary concern is money, not sports. Having both winter and summer games the same year kept the bidding prices down from the broadcasting companies around the world. They simply can't afford to do both, especially now that it's such a spectacle. NBC ponied up almost a billion dollars for the rights to Beijing. And while it easily made that money back, it's a lot of money to put up front.
Highway6
I fully understand that networks are the reason for the change, but at some point, perhaps enough people will stop caring about the winter Olympics and it won't be financially viable to hold it separate.
