NEW METRO BOARD MEMBER

Terence H. Fontaine, former deputy chief of staff for the city of Houston, has joined the Metropolitan Transit Authority Board of Directors.

A native Houstonian, Fontaine works as a Senior Consultant for CenterPoint Energy, responsible for implementing performance management tools in the Regulatory Operations Division.

Fontaine replaces Bishop James Dixon as one of the five board members representing Houston. The nine-member board also has two Harris County representatives and two who represent the 14 multi-cities in METRO’s service area. Fontaine was sworn in July 13.

After graduating from Bellaire High School, Fontaine entered the United States Marine Corps where he began a career in aviation. During his seven-year tenure in the Marines, Fontaine worked in aviation operations, learned to fly and studied aircraft maintenance while serving his country stateside and abroad.

In 1989, Fontaine joined the Technical Operations Division of Continental Airlines. While at Continental, Fontaine worked in many capacities, including Manager of Maintenance Operations. In 1996, he transferred to the Flight Operations Division as a Pilot Instructor on the Boeing 727 and 777. He later joined Continental Express as a management pilot.

In January 2004, Mayor Bill White appointed Fontaine as Deputy Chief of Staff responsible for monitoring, measuring and improving the city’s day-to-day operations. In the wake of the mass evacuation of neighboring Gulf States as a direct result of Hurricane Katrina, Fontaine served as a site manager at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

An Ordained Deacon at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, Fontaine is Chairman of the Board for the historic Eldorado Social Club, board member of Inner City Visions and the William A. Lawson Institute of Peace and Prosperity, member of the Rotary Club of Houston, the Houston Livestock Show Rodeo International Committee and the Organization of Black Airline Pilots.

Fontaine has a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Management from Southern Illinois University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston.

Fontaine is married and has one daughter.

Sounds like a good guy. I wonder if this is the first former airline pilot to serve on Metro's Board?
