editor
I got the new R.E.M. record on Monday, and there's a song on it called "Houston." The chorus is:Houston is filled with promise/Laredo's a beautiful place/And Galveston sings like that song that I loved/Whose meaning has not been erased/I'm not sure what the song is about, but that's true for about 90% of R.E.M. songs. TheNiche
I'm not sure what the song is about, but that's true for about 90% of R.E.M. songs. It's about Katrina refugees. I'm not sure what Laredo has to do with anything, but the meaning of Houston and Galveston is pretty clear. If the storm doesn't kill me the government willI've got to get that out of my headIt's a new day today and the coffee is strongI've finally got some rest
Highway6
.. niche beat me to it.same question on Laredo.... maybe they needed a filler 3 syllable Texas town.
TheNiche
.. niche beat me to it.same question on Laredo.... maybe they needed a filler 3 syllable Texas town. They could've gotten away with two syllables. And I can think of lots of two- and three-syllable places more beautiful than Laredo. Let's start with Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Waco, Temple, Belton, Tyler, Taylor, Sherman, Lufkin, Conroe, Huntsville, Anahuac, Winnie, Baytown, Deer Park, La Porte, Channelview, Humble, League City, Bacliff, Pearland, Friendswood, Columbus, Sealy, La Grange, Bastrop, Alvin, Freeport, Lake Jackson, Angleton, Ingleside, Rockport, Fulton...and the list goes on. editor
Gee, do you think that's why critics are calling this their best CD ever?I think it's OK -- not great. It's a little too mid-90's guitar wailing for me. I like the old rockabilly R.E.M.
