Guest danax
Houston Business Journal - February 21, 2005http://houston.bizjournals.com/houston/sto...21/daily10.html LATEST NEWS2:43 PM CST MondayHouston fourth on U-Haul destination list in 2004Houston fell from No. 3 to No. 4 on U-Haul's list of top destination cities. Every year, the Phoenix-based moving truck rental company publishes its National Migration Trend Report. For 2004, Chicago was the top city, based on data compiled from about 1.63 million U-Haul transactions. Following Chicago were Orlando, Fla.; Los Angeles; Houston; and Sacramento, Calif. Atlanta, which had held the top spot from 2000 to 2003, took sixth place, while New York, Denver, Las Vegas and Dallas completed the top 10. The rankings show destinations for movers who travel more than 50 miles.
skwatra
interesting, but i think we should go by the census rather then u-haul rentals. chicago has actually been going down in population recently-http://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/20...106.html#table2it would be neat to see from/to tables, like where did the most people who moved to houston using u-haul come from. The declining population you cite for Chicago is, of course, the city of Chicago only, not the entire metro area.

So Houston is number 3 in population growth among the big ten?
Houston19514
These are just one little interesting indicator of the direction and velocity (if you will) of various metro economies. I don't think anyone, even U-Haul, is suggesting they can be substituted for Census population estimates and other, more precise measures of economic and population growth. Guest danax
Of course, Houston's U-haul numbers might be a little skewed when all of the traffickers hauling pot from the border are taken into consideration. But then again, that could apply to all cities.
