hlraphael
What plants are good for an enclosed atrium? It's kind of a dead space right now.
lgg
Is it a sunken atrium? And if so, how deep? That affects how much dirt you'll have.Ficus trees are obvious -- tough as nails, good in indoor light, and period-appropriate. Or at least I think they're appropriate: As a kid in the early '70s, I admired them in malls.
Shin'enKan
There's a ficus benjamina in our atrium. I think the tree's location is awkward though. The original owners said the atrium had an exposed dirt floor and was used to hold a lot of plants in containers. To clean up the look, I put in the white marble gravel and a small portion of DH's rock collection. I think the space still needs some work. hlraphael
The atrium was concreted over by the previous owners, so i will have to use potted plants. The ficus sounds like a great option. Maybe a fountain too. Thanks! I like the look of the white rocks in your pictures. It looks better than cracked concrete!
