VicMan
Some janitors at Key Middle School stated that they fell ill because of mold. The school officials say that bleach caused the illness of the janitors.Today the district said that there was no mold problem and re-opened Key: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headli...ro/5104783.html "Key Middle School safe from mold, HISD says"Other articles:* http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/tx/5104703.html "Houston school district, union at odds over janitors' sickness "* http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5103821.html "Houston councilman calls a closer look at mold in school"* http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nb/ald...ws/5103133.html "7 janitors sickened at Houston's Key Middle School"Key Middle School serves the Kashmere Gardens, Trinity, and Houston Gardens areas (The page about Trinity/Houston Gardens is here: http://www.houstonhope.org/trinity_houston_gardens.html ). It is the main feeder middle school of Kashmere High School, although a small section of its attendance boundary feeds into Jeff Davis High School. RedScare
Just one example: SEIU leaders are using union funds and resources to continue their ongoing protest of the Iraq war and protest US support of globalization. They have a page on the SEIU website where union members can show their support for ending the war and supporting rights of Iraqis to unionize.Disapproval of the Iraq War is hardly a "far left" position. 70% of Americans disapprove of the Iraq War. VicMan
http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=...&id=5743715Sheila Jackson Lee is now telling HISD that it should bulldoze the old Key building and build a new one.For some reason I knew she was going to say that. VicMan
Okay, HISD spent 3 million dollars to revamp Key...But some parents still want HISD to bulldoze the old Key and build a new school...While Saavedra floated the idea of closing Key and using it as HISD offices: http://www.chron.com/disp/commnts.mpl/front/5767177.htmlI think all the Chron posters seeing the 3 million as HISD "waste" don't understand that in fact there are various political forces. What it boils down to is that the Kashmere Gardens/Houston Gardens area wants a "bigger slice of the pie" and I feel the Kashmere Gardens/Houston Gardens communities used distortion to try to gain from the district. plumber2
Disapproval of the Iraq War is hardly a "far left" position. 70% of Americans disapprove of the Iraq War.How does belonging to a union all of sudden label you as being "far left" and somehow unpatriotic?I just logged on the "US Chamber of Commerce" website, a business union, and it is calling on all it's members to support a "Free Trade Initiative" in Washinton DC. Does this mean that all businessmen who support free trade are "far right" and more patriotic? Now back to Key Elementary. There are several remediation companies in town that can fix any mold problems that exist in this building without tearing it down. And most of them employee non union labor. Excuse me, that means they pay "free trade wages".
cottonmather0
Mold, the new radon and asbestos rip off masterminded by lawyers.Agreed. When all of this was going on last fall, all I could think was "hysteria" whenever I saw pictures of teachers being carted off on gurneys with oxygen masks and the like. It just seemed like all of the parents and teachers associated with that school were absolutely determined to believe that there was something wrong, even when the CDC and HISD said it was OK, or at least not nearly as bad as they were all insisting it to be.
