c4smok
I have seen around 5 stores close in the past 6 months myself..I guess its the smaller sized ones they are shutting down..I was wondering if anybody else was noticing this?Dunno if they are having trouble or they are planning on bringing in HEB Plus stores into Houston Metro or not..There is one going up in Pearland atm though..I was not sure where this post when so I posted it here.. Chris
I thought they already shut down all of the HEB Pantry stores in Houston. Those I thought were the smaller ones. What is HEB Plus? Is that the same as just the regular HEB?
TheNiche
Several years back they announced plans to reposition their Houston portfolio with more Food & Drug stores and many fewer of their existing Pantry stores. It's been going on for a while.

jm1fd
I hope they don't kill the one I go to over at 18th and Ella. I really, really wish they'd build one closer to Oak Forest/Garden Oaks. *sigh*
hbcu
they tried an urban concept but never got off the ground...bought huge plots of land in Acres Home and Beltway and West Fuqua but never turned an ounce of dirt in 6 years.

I still recall the 1st time I walked into an HEB it was on Lamar Blvd in Austin about 12 years ago. I was hoping they would come to Houston soon. They finally did got well settled and now seems they are going away little by little. I feel they are one of the last dinosaurs of reasonably priced grocery stores left. Affortable to the common folk like me.
plumber2
The Galveston HEB is still a "Pantry". A pretty cruddy one at that.
