  1. Yep, it was a real park. And yes, it where One Park Place is now.
  2. Swamplot is reporting that the opening has been delayed, yet again... http://swamplot.com/openings-and-closings-new-hubcap-grill-funeral-bars-downtown-phoenicia-delay/2011-07-14/#more-30692
  3. I really hate the commentators on the Chronicle website...especially when it comes to downtown. http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2011/07/bye-bye-byrds
  4. I can't say that I am really surprised. I just hope another "grocer" will fill it's space.
  5. I think that the entry was through a cut fence (or scaled the fence) and through one of the boarded doors on Fannin.
  6. Yeah, don't think as an "urban explorer" but think as an "urban trailblazer". I think that there maybe an entrance near the corner of Fannin and Texas. If not, it seems like it'd be a couple stories to climb. I'm going to look at it more closely when I head out tonight. Also, for some reason I have this thought that a couple frineds and I also saw another proposal (not nearly as large) on our walk through downtown from midtown but we all cannot colectively remember :/
  7. This is something that I was thinking of doing myself. I would be pretty interested in getting up there after a few pints
  8. I've heard word that the brewery will encompass the area where teh old club used to be on the corner of Main and Prarie, across the street from Jefe Bar and the area where Glo used to be.
  9. This is true, though I, personally, have beeen assaulted/robbed twice in the last two years in Midtown, once with a gun involved. While my incident may be unique in the circumstances involved, I do not believe for a second that the assaults are mainly limited to "bum fights" or drunk patrons at bars as you suggest.
  10. That'd be pretty cool, though kind of weird to have a hotel so close to a feeder. I just hope it keeps a lot of its personality.
  11. Yeah, apparently it hass packs of feral cats too
  12. It's a very interesting concept, though I just don't see that happening here. Not that I wouldn't mind, but it just doesn't seem like something we would do
  13. You are talking about where Live Sports Bar used to be. That place hasn't been opened since after Hurricane Ike - that was kind of their last hurrah since they were the only bar in downtown that didnt have any damage and had a kitchen (though I admittedly don't remember if Market Square Grill was affected or not). A buddy of mine think that'll be a good spot and it might be but I think that they won't have enough room to brew their beer onsite, though I could be wrong. I really don't know if any of those buildings over there are - I mean there are a couple of loft conversions that could be and if so, it couldn't be too far off base, but I really can't think of a "great intersection" over there. Plus Mayor Parker and Boby Eury of the Downtown District both mentioned it being a great addition to the Downtown retailers.
  14. I don't know, there are a lot of pubs opening inside the loop that have a great selection of beer other than Bud, Miller and all those. I think that the craft beer movement is pretty good here - I just think that they need to make some really good beer and advertise themselves
  15. I have heard the same thing though I don't really know if that's the best area for them. I know they are going to renovate the building at the corner of Fannin and Prarie and I was thinking that it'd be nice to renovate the boarded building to the right of it on Prarie but that might be too much for renovations. I think that St. Pete's building would be better since it's on Main at a train stop and they are starting to attract more businesses and restaurants to the Market Square area. Plus he was staying at the Icon across the street and it may be better to put it there once the Icon is under new management and ownership
  16. I am wondering what everyone thinks about the new brewpub that's coming to downtown? Does anyone think that it will help bring in good revenue? Clean up some eyesores around the city? Any speculation as to where it will open? I am hoping it's in the old St. Pete's Dancing Marlin building at the corner of Main and Preston. http://blog.chron.com/beertx/2011/05/houston-we-have-a-brewpub-again-finally/
