They're probably waiting until they can figure out what the best use for the site is.
When my parents talked to them about buying a unit, they made a point of talking about how you can design the walls inside your unit any way you want them, and they are custom building all of the units. I expect when they are close to completely sold is when it will start to go up. The units that haven't sold are mostly the lower-level ones.

Is the tower keeping the same curb cuts as shown in post #220?
Good question. I just checked the renderings, and they seem to have forgotten to have drawn in an entrance for the garage.

Just had a conversation about this with my parents. They were thinking of getting a unit here and went by the sales office today and found just the right floorplan... then saw the view it would have.
The wanted to get one that would be the corner pointing directly towards the 24-Hour Fitness. The fact that they'd have offices looking in at them from half of the living room was enough for them to back out of the deal. Paying that much for a unit that has more than half of its view blocked was not something they were willing to do.
One thing they learned from the sales office though that was a little interesting: no assigned parking spaces and no self parking. All of the parking at the building will be valet only. Not something I've ever heard of a place doing before. Also, apparently the penthouse unit will be 5,000 sq.ft. interior space and 5,000 sq.ft. of patio.

apache will build two towers on the portion of the site they bought.
True. But because they bought the land in my mind that is the Apache site, and not BLVD Place, so I didn't think to include those.
Although those two towers, like the other three I mentioned, are not going to be going up any time soon (Apache's lease at Post Oak Central isn't up until 2018 I believe), and nothing even resembling a rendering of them has shown up anywhere. I'm not even sure they've started looking for an architect yet.

Would love for the others ones in the rendering to start construcion
At this point there are no others to even start construction on. The renderings of the whole site are not what those towers will look like, but simply generic placeholders in the picture where the towers should eventually go. So far, the tower going up is the only one with an actual rendering of it released (unless we assume that the original Hanover tower is still going to be going up as well). They want there to be two more residential towers, but we've not gotten anything other than "yeah, they'll be there, eventually." And the hotel tower still needs a hotel to actually sign on to the deal before anything goes ahead there.

Are any skyscrapers under construction?
Just the 29-story Hanover apartment tower (the white crane in the more recent pictures).
-
So I'm guessing this is going to replace the old abandoned gas station at S McGregor and Calhoun?
Looks like it. The article says it's at that intersection and that two apartment complexes and the gas station will be torn down to build it.

Are you using a card reader or SD port on computer?
SD port on my computer. It worked great until a few weeks ago. I'm still searching for the little USB cable that connects to my camera, because I've used that successfully in the past.

From what I've been able to find, Hanover's tower appears to be apartments, not condos. I was considering selling my place on Post Oak and buying in that building instead (management is worse than useless here), but I've found zero mention anywhere of sales at all, and everything I've seen on it refers to it as apartments.

That music is hilarious after expecting an actual news report.

Two trucks showed up today loaded with what appear to be air conditioning units. There's also a very large crane on site lifting them to the roof.
Restart your computer. That should fix it.
The computer has been restarted about 3 dozen times since this became a problem. I wish that would've solved it.

2013 05 18: Weekly update. Sign now says 45% sold. They have been doing work on site between 11pm and 6am the last few nights. No one is pleased.
They initially were shooting for a May opening, so I imagine the night work is to try to finish by the end of the month.

Why would you think it's too small to do much else with? It's bigger than the next-door property on which a 25 story condo tower is about to be built...
The fact that it is right next to the Astoria pretty much negates any chance of something being built UP very much on this site. While there are no real restrictions against it, this isn't NYC, so I don't see anyone building a tower that will be three feet away from a condo tower right next to it. They could probably build up to about the top of whatever the garage height of the Astoria is, and that severely limits the site's potential.
-
They could always have done something like BG Group Place's garage.

I'm hoping that the McDonalds land will end up in a few years being bought up by someone who also buys that small old apartment complex behind it, and makes it a new complex with a little front entrance out on Post Oak. Seems like the only real option for future development of this space now. The property is too small to do much else with.

I got pictures last night and this morning of the big crawler crane being erected, but I still can't get my computer to recognize my memory card so I can't upload them. They are most definitely dismantling the taller crane.
-
why would this building make any difference? the huntington is down the street and is literally twice as tall, in addition to the 12 story BBVA Compass office building right next door.
Exactly. The fact that there are already two big towers a block away is what's going to prevent anything even resembling the Ashby mess from happening here.

I would also love to see a development on Post Oak between California Pizza Kitchen and the Lofts on Post Oak in the form of a huge residential, hotel and entertainment complex...preferably with a large sports and restaurant/bar theme...and one that would mesh well with BLVD Place.
I live in the tower of the Lofts looking north. The last thing I want is ANY sort of anything being built over the nice, short, totally-not-in-the-way-of-my-view shopping center that's there already.

Looks like ANOTHER new building as been proposed for the campus. They seem like they are still trying to raise the funds to get this one going.
This one is going to be for the engineering college and will sit where the old Engineering Societies warehouse (that old WW1-era rusted out hanger thing they tore down last year) was:
Here's UH's webpage describing it:

It was my understanding that the Whole Foods is going to be the entire front part of the bottom two stories of the parking structure. Looking at the rendering, it seems to show the store going almost the whole way down, and stopping at the parking garage entrance.

There's a good amount of glass going up on this side as well. My computer has stopped reading my SD cards, so I can't upload any pictures until I get some kind of work around or get it fixed. I've got about a 3 week backlog of pictures I've taken.
Also, as of about 2 weeks ago, they have the lights in place for the top of the parking area. Again, sorry I can't post pictures. :/- 1

Could that be related to a difference in the internal layouts of those floors?
Maybe, but I doubt it. The 3rd and 5th floor rooms in CV1 are the same as the rest of the rooms as far as I know, with two small windows instead of one big one. For the rooms, at least the ones I've been in, there's a bed on each side with the window(s) in the middle.
Thanks for the updates Golyadkin! Do you live on campus?
Nope. Just on campus almost everyday for classes.

What bothers me (and my OCD) is the slight difference in window design they made between Cougar Village 1 and 2 for the 3rd and 5th floors:
Cougar Village 1:
Cougar Village 2:- 1

It looks a lot less like a prison in person, I promise.

Been driving by pretty much every day this week. They have the basic steel frame that will hold up the seats starting to go up in the southern endzone section of the stadium. It is now starting to take the shape of an actual stadium.
