  1. As far as I know, it's still going to be the smaller Whole Foods.

I suspect the whole project is recessed from the street a bit because of the light rail proposals. Also, from what I read on the variance request from 2200 Post Oak, there is a city code that prohibits buildings from being within 15 feet of the property line alone a major road.

If anyone has any other specific questions on this project, I can go back in the next few weeks and I can ask them then.

  2. It seems the site of the old Marquee Apartments on McCue right across Westheimer from the Galleria was sold. There's already a really basic idea of what's going to go up there:

    Millennium-Galleria.jpg?v=1

They are saying it's going to be a 237 unit apartment building.

This is the same company responsible for Millenium Greenway, that new-ish apartment building that wraps around the Chevron station at Wesleyan and 59.

The site is the one that backs up to the 2200 Post Oak site.

  3. Well the problem is that they have a large chunk of vacant space there. What my understanding of the project is is that they will demo some of the shops in the front, opening up the whole layout, and move all of those front shops into vacant space in the rear, which will greatly increase the total percentage of their space that is leased. No one goes there anymore, and store keep leaving. I've said for several years that the place is dying. Hopefully this can turn it around.

Now all they need to do is get rid of LA Fitness and put the skate park back and the place will be full of people again...

  4. According to the BLVD Place website, Phase II will be done in 2012. It doesn't say what part of 2012 though. I just hope they get going on something soon. I just moved into my new place about a month and a half ago, and it overlooks the site, and however nice a big field is out your window, I'd rather have a Whole Foods, or at least some construction to watch.

Currently this is my view off of my balcony:

Hopefully, once they get working, I'll have some photos of it that are actually interesting (and don't necessitate me getting dressed to take them ;) ).

  5. I remember seeing that sign appear almost 8 years ago. I used to live on Bering, like half a block from the site, so I got really excited. I usually laugh when I see it now, thinking that the whole thing was scrapped and the sign was just forgotten.

Good to know it's still going to happen.

And I found the page on their website regarding this site:

  6. I don't have anything concrete, but I got asked to do some budget work for a supposed 17 story or so tower in this area. They wouldn't tell me much beside that it was suppossedly in the same area, about 17 floors, funded, had a tenant and was moving forward very quickly. Probably a June Start. Sounds like it could be the same thing. How's that for speculation.

If that's the case, the 24 Hour Fitness is going to have to be demolished soon, unless the June start date means the start of the demolition work.

  7. Found out everything that's happening (sorry for the double post. can I not edit my previous post?):

    My linkhttp://www.uh.edu/plantops/resources/projects-log-folder/Major_Capital_Projects_Main.pdf

It's from July 2010, but it lists all the planned or current projects.

The thing at Cullen at the PGH entrance is nothing more than an expansion of the Fleming Building. I hadn't been into Fleming since the work started, but apparently they are renovating the whole thing.

The whole powerplant is being renovated, and they are replacing two of the cooling towers and two boilers.

Other things include a planned 2,400-spot parking garage at Roberston, renovations of about half a dozen buildings, extension of the Valenti School of Communications, and a third building for the Bauer College.

What is conspicuously absent it the University Center renovations.

  8. The six-story building will be connected to UH's College of Optometry at the corner of Wheeler Avenue and Calhoun Road.

    full story

I thought that was the building going up at the corner of Cullen at the PGH entry drive. So if this is going up at Calhoun, WHAT IS GOING ON AT CULLEN!?!?

And does anyone have any information about what they are doing at the power plant? The whole area is fenced off.

  9. One foot? That doesn't actually mean a building will be one foot from the street, does it? It must mean the landscape or something.

Ask him to scan and put the copy online.

lol. As I was reading though this thread, I saw this, and was getting ready to post the pictures here. Glad I kept reading. ;)

I found this site about an hour ago, and the two threads I've read so far have had quotes from me from SSP.

As with BLVD Place, I live across the street from this site, so as soon as anything interesting happens there, I'll let you guys know.

  10. Cool! I was quoted from another site. ;)

The Ritz Carlton is one of those things that we probably won't know for sure until the building is done and the signs go up. Initially, it was going to be a 50+ story Ritz, then two 30+ story towers, then one 30+ story tower, then it was cancelled entirely, then they said it was going to happen, then they cancelled again. Now all we have is that there is a planned "luxury hotel" on the site.

One thing I like to see from all of the site plans is that the Hanover Residential Tower has not changed at all. That tells me those plans are pretty set, regardless of what the press releases say.

As for progress on the site, I can keep you guys updated daily as soon as something starts happening. Even more so in about a month. Right now, I'm in a unit in my building that on the first floor looking away from the site, but by the end of February, I should be moved into a unit on the 6th floor with a pretty good view over the entire site. Right now it's a giant field of grass, but, as I told SSP, the minute something interesting happens, I'll let you know.
