  1. LD, you are completely right. Also, the existing entrance to the Microcenter is a real pain... unless you have a truck it rips up the bottom of your car. My bumper is still recovering.
  2. Or maybe he's talking out two sides of his mouth? Seemed like he had a rough morning.
  3. LOL, they have received violation notices at least three times over the past 6 months. Twice the brush was over 7 feet high on the property. I walked by today... there was a guy out there doing some survey work. Also, it looks like the city put up about a dozen violation signs around the property.
  4. Re: elevated rail & noise... I rode the JR trains all over Japan 6 weeks ago. In the major cities, there are arterial stations away from the core (think Woodlands, or 610/290 vs. downtown). The trains don't go 200 mph between them... since there isn't room to speed up and speed down. The lower speeds also allow tighter turns in urban environments and create less noise. The Japanese are fanatical about noise, and have specific standards for how much noise can reach a structure. In urban areas, there are sound walls, trench & cover, and other barriers that encapsulate the line. These trains don't create anything like the noise of a freight train. No banging, no horns, no signal, no 2 mph squeeky wheel nonsense. See pg 7. http://www.mlit.go.jp/english/2006/h_railway_bureau/Laws_concerning/14.pdf
  5. No nightlife nearby? It's not exactly my scene by Belvedere does pretty good business. Also, the tasting room is great.
  6. The Saudi's were key to aligning the gulf region against ISIS and participated in the strikes with their own pilots. http://online.wsj.com/articles/deal-with-saudis-paved-way-for-syrian-airstrikes-1411605329 http://www.cbsnews.com/news/saudi-arabia-prince-turki-al-faisal-on-syria-airstrikes/ http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/09/23/us-syria-crisis-saudi-idUSKCN0HI1Y120140923 With regard to the building itself... I'm not sure our embassy buildings abroad look too amazing... In London: In Tokyo: In Mexico City:
  7. Not the trash mound (that one's north of downtown)... though I call it Mt. Houston. This one is just east of the Washburn tunnel, south of the ship channel.
  8. It is the 610 bridge, but it is not the SJ monument (I think it's covered behind downtown actually). Just stacks along the ship channel. On a good day you can see the BW8 bridge.
  9. How about the day they shut down 59 SB around 2pm because the truck was hanging off the ramp... Took me almost two hours to get from Greenway Plaza to Uptown... 3 miles down Wesleyan to San Felipe.
  10. Sorry for no updates. Lots of life stuff. Also I moved, so no more top-down updates on Astoria / 4 Oaks. That said, lots of good stuff breaking the tree line.
