Regarding Swift & Co.:
-1932 lists Swift & Co. refinery at the southwest corner of Waverly and 7th (no address)
-Swift & Co. wholesale meats was located at 1102-1106 Commerce St. (and the next block, 1016-1020, was Armour & Co. meat packers).

A mansion price, though the IKEA furnishings (which aren't bad, in my opinion) push it in the "mc" category.

Sounds like fun!

I remember my mom having a card with the old-fashioned lower case logo with the asterisk for what seemed like an eternity..
Here are a couple logos:

Na, I think if someone wants to spend his/her time fighting small battles, have at it.
I don't see the problem of a utility bill, though - it seems easiest to require across the board since there are a lot of non-homeowner residents in HISD territory.

1976 swine flu shot ads from the United States Public Health Service:
and:
The $137-million program began in early October, but within days reports emerged that the vaccine appeared to increase the risk for Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare neurological condition that causes temporary paralysis but can be fatal.Waiting in long lines at schools and clinics, more than 40 million Americans -- almost 25% of the population -- received the swine flu vaccine before the program was halted in December after 10 weeks.
More than 500 people are thought to have developed Guillain-Barre syndrome after receiving the vaccine; 25 died. No one completely understands the causes of Guillain-Barre, but the condition can develop after a bout with infection or following surgery or vaccination. The federal government paid millions in damages to people or their families.
However, the pandemic, which some experts estimated at the time could infect 50 million to 60 million Americans, never unfolded. Only about 200 cases of swine flu and one death were ultimately reported in the U.S., the CDC said.

In the past it wasn't such an issue, but yeah, there's no going back now. Back in the day, though, it was a beautiful little neighborhood.

Yes - I'll put some links and information together and pin it somewhere - which forum would be best? Historic Houston?
If anyone has any input, it would be appreciated.
-
"A historic designation would not be automatic, you would have to apply for one and go through the process."
I stand corrected, I intended to state: You will automatically qualify for historic designation based on a 50+ year age of the house. Yes, you do still have to submit to the City of Houston for an official historic designation.
The application isn't difficult - I wish more folks would take the time to do it for eligible properties

Why is that news? Did you expect that gay couples would never get divorced?
For reals - why would gay couples be any different than straight ones?

"UNIQUE FLOOR PLAN - REDESIGNED BY PREVIOUS OWNER/ARCHITECT -"
Is he referring to the additions?!

It was also on KPRC and KTRK - one said the bust happened at dawn, so maybe it's the same one.
