  1. eh, i would argue that a parking garage with a retail component is actually perfect for the area, especially with the massive apartment building going on south of alabama. Like it or not, parking is necessary, and this seems like the best way to keep parking while still keeping the streetfront along main as pedestrian friendly as possible. it also avoids the various issues developers run into when mixing retail and residential in a single building.

  2. If you look at the render, Double Trouble's building *is* there, it just has a strange second story extension built above it.

If I remember correctly, the original plan was to tear down the building, but when the developer actually started clearing it out he decided it was worth keeping.

  3. I'm not judging them for being anti-OTC. I am also anti-OTC. But, at the very least, the staff will be largely different between the two locations. I'm sure there will be some overlap, but if the manager and most of the staff are different, it's at least possible that the bagby location will be run a bit differently, at least in terms of how it relates to the neighborhood.

  4. I will admit, OTC would not be my first choice if I lived in the area. Nevertheless, youre judging a bar that hasnt even opened yet. I just wonder if you would be happy with *any* similar business in that location. Your townhouse may have been there before Union, but not before the building itself, which was clearly retail. Bagby is not exactly a quiet, neighborhood street, so, particularly considering the lack of zoning, there was always a risk of a rowdy bar moving in.

And yes, if Texans are stupid, what exactly are you?

  5. theres just so little to say about this development. It's ...ok? It could be worse? It's better than a vacant lot? It's boring, and the only remotely interesting thing about it is its orientation; it faces a tiny, minor side street.

That being said, i like paying half as much for higher quality sandwiches.

  6. I like Clutch City Squire. It was pretty dead last Saturday, but the prices seemed reasonable and they did have local crafts on tap. I'm really looking forward to when they open the second floor in a couple weeks.

I hate the name though. It makes it sound like a sports bar, which it really isn't. Plus it's just too long and not terrible memorable.
