  1. A friend of mine tried to go to the CC in the Galleria a couple days ago and he said it was already closed - paper on the windows and everything...

Erm, your friend is smoking some really good stuff. I was there Monday night. Plenty of stock, and not closed.

Drove by it last night too, open for business.

The paper on the windows is for advertising.

If he is thinking the Sharpstown location, yes, that closed already.

  2. This is the kind of news that needs to be heard.

    Local 2 Investigates Charity Panhandlers

    By Amy Davis

    POSTED: Wednesday, February 11, 2009

HOUSTON -- We know you've seen the men and women collecting donations along Houston roadways because many of you asked us to check them out. Last year we asked the questions to get you answers about where your donations are really going. Now, investigative reporter Amy Davis is giving you a look at the finances and a one-on-one interview with the group's leader. . .

. . ."You just got to hold a sign and a bucket and hand out fliers," the manager told a KPRC producer by phone. "And we pay 25 percent of what you bring in up to $99. If you make $100, we give you 30 percent." . . .

. . . And watch we did. In nine months, "God Bless" switched causes four times from AIDS and HIV to supporting youth, then collecting for a Hurricane Ike relief fund to now raising money for the homeless and hungry.

"Some people said you're just jumping onto the next big cause that'll get people to drop money in those buckets," Davis told Tarver. . .

. . .We did find one financial report Tarver filed with the city. In it, he claims from January to September 2008, God Bless Charities collected $45,000. . . .

. . .More than $19,000 went to pay stipends for the people who collected the cash. . .

After rent, utilities and transportation costs, the group had less than $5,000 left for any cause. . .

  3. Might as well turn this into a price drop thread.

As of Monday, at least in gaming.

30% off games (up from 20%)

    30% off game accessories

20% off game consoles (if you can find them)

Still a decent selection of Wii/DS/PSP/360/PS2 games, while the PS3 game selection is dwindling.

But I heard today, at least in Detroit, they started 40%-70% off, and this weekend, it's 40%-80% off and by Monday the bottom will be at 50%.

    Any truth in this?

  4. There is a park. I think it's on Allen Pkwy near the Sabine bridge.

She did so many things for this city.

    I knew I should have included " "

Actually that is the only reason I know "of the name", because of the park, but I never knew why she was so important to Houston.

  5. I too do not understand what this means.

Don't stress yourself over this LTAWACS.

Just ask him if he wants to share whatever drugs he is using that makes him write delusional things and be on your way.

    DMac = Plastic 2.0

    There, I said it.

  6. Damn man, do you ever think positive about anything? Everytime you post this stuff you get sarcastic responses, or did you not notice.

Unless it serves as a random topic bump to get this thread noticed, then I guess what LTAWACS is doing is fine silly. I agree, I'd like more relevant updates on BLVD place too.

I wish developers would at least publish a tentative project schedule on their websites, even if they are off track.

  7. There is zero logic for car mfgr's to continue 2 produce vehicles. Terminate ALL employees & shut/close down ALL plants {domestic & foreign}, refuse entrance to imports. Why delay the inevitable & steel from the hard working majority?

We hate your greed/arrogance and have zero trust in our small government to govern, PERIOD!

    Respectfully

    Danny

An open letter on an architecture website, with another similar topic heading created by the same user. What's the point of this thread in here?

  8. Yeah, I was having fun with the language filter one day. It's the same reason you sometimes see the phrase "Life's a delicate flower" around here.

What do you have to type in order for that phrase to show up?

And yes, I want to be a 12 year old emo kid. I learned "M E H" from being a forum goer.

  9. Uh-oh. About the only good thing about this announcement will be the entertainment on this thread...

    LUCKY STRIKE IS ON HOLD.

The Chron is reporting that they've finished about half the build out but have run out of funding and are looking for other investors. Denton and other retailers/restaurants/bars are downplaying the effect this will have, but this is prety major.

Lucky Strike was billed as an anchor. Losing an anchor at this stage of the game is terrible.

I am sure the restaurants are especially sad to see this as they could have counted on folks coming for dinner before heading over to bowl/drink/play games.

Wow, they only built half of it, and it was originally supposed to open 2 months ago.

    Everyone must be hurting.

Had the Pavilions started a year to two later, I bet the whole complex would have "Shamrock'd".

At least the "namesake" reflects the old Pavilions in uptown situation . . . lots of vacancies.

  10. i heard this weekend that some potential tenants are backing out. whole foods was not mentioned but other well known companies were..

unfortunately, due to the sensitivity of negotiations, i cannot disclose who they are.

Does this mean that more of the smaller buildings will be put on hold? It seems only the front building is built because it started before the economy really went into the crapper. I have yet to see anything else spring up.

Without the Hanover and Ritz, what else are they going to put on hold.
