You misunderstood my post. I meant that this is far from a useless thread (at least, in terms of its initial goal) and that the only thing that would make it better would be if someone not only found these Top Ten threads but then quoted a real standout post from each of them, like one of Semipro's posts on the Houston Pavillions thread or something like that.
-
Are you kidding? The only thing that would make this thread better is if someone quoted a classic post from each of these threads. I'd get less than an hour's work done here at the office tomorrow just by reading through all of it.

10901 Willowisp has too much front wall for me. I've never been a fan of that type of look.

Oh, there's definitely room for improvement, but it's not hideous IMO. Just pretty straight-forward. Nothing earth-shaking. Just typical Turnberry. I was, however, hoping for a more varied color-scheme, I guess.

That's more like the color scheme I thought they might go with (still might, we'll see). Other than that, the design is pretty much what you should expect from Turnberry. Some slight modifications but that's it.

Mayor Visits Glenbrook Area
The Great Hizzy! replied to rps324's topic in EaDo, the East End, and East Houston
Regardless of who's in the Mayor's Office, this sounds like a serious hurdle. -
Whoa, now that's definitely infill. I suppose this project has been in the works for a while, given the cordoning off of the parcels a couple of years ago.

I agree. I'm surprised that HEB hasn't opted for a bigger store somewhere else or hasn't tried to build a new one from the ground up. That said, I prefer Kroger to Randall's. I think the difference in quality between the two isn't all that great (at least, not at the store at which I shop), and certainly not so given the difference in price (Randall's can be ridiculous, IMO).

Found this little blurb from an article in today's HBJ and found it interesting, given the location. Could this intersection finally be seeing much needed infill? They've had parcels of land "fenced" off going down Eldridge for a couple of years but no movement. Or is this going north of Westheimer? Anyway... http://houston.bizjournals.com/houston/sto...ml?surround=lfn Indeed, Target is planning three new stores in the Houston area for 2007 and 2008 located at Interstate 45 and FM 646 in League City, at FM 1488 and FM 2978 in Magnolia and at Westheimer and Eldridge. Sure to be suburban style but that huge swath of land really sticks out like a sore thumb in this part of the city/county (it's right at the edge).

If only someone could come along and buy up the scumbag apartment complexes along Gulfbank... It's too bad that they aren't looking to keep the first 18 holes nearer to Antoine and just redevelop the western stretch of the course back towards Green Lawn.
-
It looks pretty much like how I thought it would look, except I thought they'd go with some form of a light green, blue or mango.

Well, let's look at other new residential highrises... The Mercer is 400 feet at 30 stories One Park Place will be 501 feet at 37 stories Dominion Post Oak is 351 feet at 31 stories Montebello is 330 feet at 30 stories I know amenities will differ and that floor heights won't be exactly the same on each flor as what's in those other buildings but in general, it looks like a 38-story tower will net you somewhere between 425 - 475 feet.

Given the rapid rise in population in League City and the gradual onset of highrise residential properties around the lake, I could see them wanting to move on this fairly soon, especially with the near completion of the Nasa Road Bypass.

Downtown Tunnel Retail News & Updates
The Great Hizzy! replied to houstonsemipro's topic in Downtown
There's a convenience factor with the tunnel when it's a GD monsoon outside and you're hungry and didn't bring anything from home. That said, I'd prefer to be outside--even in summer. -

So they ARE indeed moving around land to get things started on the overall project. I'm well aware of the thread on the subject (including the closing of the stores in the existing complex) but didn't know if the current land clearing across the street was directly associated. Thanks for the info.- 169 replies

A Tale of Two Cities
The Great Hizzy! replied to houstonmacbro's topic in Meanwhile, In The Rest of the World...
Well, the Miami Bust was inevitable. They were depending far too much on people from other locations investing in the properties only to sell them (flippers) later. The average income in Miami does not lend itself for the mass purchasing of all the higher end units being brought to market and the natural "correction factor" is underway. It'll take a couple of years or so to even out some. -
There you go picking on the moderator's poor grammar (or failure to use a comma when needed). But Subdude is right... several threads on the same topic flat out suck. It's distracting.

M5250: Gables Multifamily At 5250 Brownway St.
The Great Hizzy! replied to houstonfella's topic in Uptown and Galleria Area
I've always wondered why there weren't more highrises on the western stretch of Westheimer near the Galleria. Land is available and it would really be a "hot" location. If Kinkaid Alum's intepretations are true, then this would finally tap into that part of Uptown. Also: They're clearing land behind the former Eatzi's on San Felipe. Anybody know for what purpose exactly are they doing this?- 169 replies

One Park Place: Multifamily At 1400 McKinney St.
The Great Hizzy! replied to GovernorAggie's topic in Downtown
Looking at the site(s) in person, you can immediately see the impact it will have on parking in that area, especially if you're wanting to go to a Rockets/Comets/Aeros game. I truly hope the Park Tower and nearby Discovery Green are successful, as the lots surrounding those developments will be even primer pieces of real estate than they are now.- 989 replies

There are also townhomes west of Almeda in the Third Ward/Museum District area but the typical asking price to start is more around $230,000 for one and two bedroom townhomes the last time I checked around.
