I'm a huge opponent of putting billboards on buildings. It's bad enough to have them freestanding along a highway (IMO) but they're even worse on buildings. As for the jumbotrons, I think their usage should be limited and confined to specific points of interest. Something akin to the electric marquee used by the Wortham wouldn't be a bad thing at HP, although I'd agree in advance that if you're going that route, you'd also want to jazz it up, too. The screen used at the Wortham is pretty plain jane, which is fine, given what it is, but probably wouldn't cut it for something like HP.

I've long since figured that the original plans to rehabilitate that house were pre-empted for whatever reason. I've not seen any work done on it in over a year.

Well, aren't we filled with double-naught spies lately. As for the project that Ricco is talking about... it seems that lot is awful small and cramped, given its potential position against the existing highrises and potential issues with parking and so forth. But then again, it's really hard to gauge such things without seeing at least a computer image of the building at completion.

Jeez... the thing's almost done, including the surrounding residential. There has to be updated pictures somewhere.

M5250: Gables Multifamily At 5250 Brownway St.
The Great Hizzy! replied to houstonfella's topic in Uptown and Galleria Area
You know, now that you mention it, I forget where the original blurb came from. HBJ article? In any case... this is very much how the Turnberry project was reported last year: speculation, then later a couple of confirming articles and then months later (like last week, in fact) an actual image.- 169 replies

Nah. I'm thinking it might be too early for that. Seems that this is one of those speculative deals, like the Turnberry was around this time last year. Hopefully more concrete details will emerge over the coming months.- 169 replies

Oh, agreed. But I was talking about the project evolving to another block, such as the one with Josephine's on it (I know, I know, blasphemous) but still... I truly believe the residential boom in DT Houston will be the results of a continuing strong economy, the growth of the Discovery Green area and the Pavillions area. That's an ideal critical mass of amenities that, along with the convenience of LRT, could make developers willing to "go get it." We'll see.

If the population base from those mere two residential midrises was going to have that much of an impact on the success of this project, then this project was/is doomed anyway. Like with Denver Pavillions, the development is looking to tap into the existing downtown population of workers, visitors and residential. I agree that it would be nice/cool to have the residential component at opening--and maybe it will eventually spawn an expansion some time after the grand opening--but the true success of this project--as it is/was with Denver--will come from the Pavillions' ability to lure workers, tourists and casual visitors downtown.

"Ugliest" Interchange in Houston
The Great Hizzy! replied to GovernorAggie's topic in Traffic and Transportation
Yeah, the color scheme is so-so, in my book. But it's definitely a massive interchange, with the same basic feel as the new Katy Freeway/West Loop interchange. -
Glenbrook Valley Real Estate & Developments
The Great Hizzy! replied to rps324's topic in Houston Real Estate
I wholeheartedly agree. There's a beige house on the left along Glencrest heading south at around Glen Vista (maybe) that's just absolutely ridiculous. And then two doors down, there's a house also on the left that's being used essentially as a trash pile. They stick out like two sore thumbs. -
Perhaps as a suggeston to Wayne, our fearless editor, or to any of our moderators (Subdude, Big Tex, etc...), maybe we could have a thread or a board that basically lists projects currently under construction as well as proposed projects.
