  1. hey guys. this is my first post :D , but i am finally glad they are doing something with Ben Milam. this has been one of my favoriites and have been waiting for it to be developed. Sad to see the old William Penn go but hope this makes up for its great loss. Finally that sign on Crawford and Texas means something. :D:D:D

i have several pictures from both hotels and will post shortly for all to see.

    And HELLO!! to all :o

Cool, and Welcome Houston 1973 :D

  2. I'm going to try to go to Saturday's game against Atlanta. I'm hoping the team can win the division that day. Tickets shouldn't be hard to come by since it's in Atlanta.

I know it's a bit premature, but I got my tickets to game two. I don't even know if I'll be in town that day(I should be though). If I'm not I'll give/sell them. If they don't make it I get my money back.

    Come on 'Stros!!!

  3. This will definitely be a make or break year for JVG. If he can't win with these players, then it's time for new blood. I think we're a contender with this addition, as long as we stay healthy.

This is good, now I can look forward to the season!

That should be the Rocket's slogan this year

"Rockets.....Stay Healthy" or "Just Say NO to Injuries" :P

  4. UPDATE:

Just learned that the Texaco building is scheduled for renovation.

The building was never scheduled for demolition but the construction was put on hold by the owner.

New equipment is being purchased now.

Cool once again thanks for the Update?

I love this building, back in Aug I saw pressure washing being done, I wasn't sure if it was just routine or they were actually about to start something. I couldn't remember the name of the building so I never posted the pressure wash. I knew there was a thread open I just didn't bother.

Same questions as the Ben Milam building if you don't mind Ron4Tx

  5. UPDATE:

The Ben Milam Hotel is now being renovated.

All of the asbestos has been removed.

A new chiller and cooling tower have been purchased.

Tenants have already been signed to move in.

On the first floor will be restaurants and a bank.

An attorney's office will occupy some of the floors.

    Upper floors will be lofts.

A parking garage is to be added adjacent to the building.

I also learned that the Texaco building is also scheduled for renovations.

    Equipment is being purchased now.

That's great!!!!! :o In Aug I went to a game and saw people working in it, like everyone else I wasn't sure if they were getting ready to tear it down. Now we know

If you don't mind me asking, what's your source? Is there a website maybe any artist renderings? Tenant names?

    Thanks for the update

  6. Dude, the Astros beat the Phillies, and the Cards lost to the Padres earlier tonight! We're only 2 1/2 back!

Think we might actually have a chance at the division?

Yep, I was rooting for the 'Stros and Padres last night

Astros play the Pirates(they aren't doing well) and the Cards are playing the Padres(West Division leaders) for the next couple of games. So we have a really good chance of going to the playoffs

  7. Wow... new to forum... been a fan of Houston since I was born. Saw this building on the site and had to join. I have been eyeing this building for several months. I would always walk by and dream. Don't have near enough to buy the place, but I see so much potential... if I could just win that lottery, we'd have some new lofts for our bustling downtown!

Welcome to HAIF. I'm also a big fan of this building. Here are some more pics.(taken a couple months ago)

The builing next to it looks like it was fixed up a bit, but it's still boarded up. Maybe they ran out of money or are waiting for someone to buy it off them.

  8. i don't know, i'm starting to get a little nervous myself. I just finished browsing on the Houston Pavilions site and noticed that the Project Timeline link had all the information taken out of it as well as the Contact information link. It used to have the e-mail adress posted as well as the phone # and adress info. I'm hoping that this isn't a BAD sign. :(

It could be that too many people were asking about the project and they weren't getting any work done.

I really don't know, I'm just sitting back and waiting. If this doesn't take off in mid Oct we still have the DT Park to look foward to(also scheduled for mid Oct)it seems like it's coming along on time :)

  9. crap. :angry2: with costco coming there is no chance of this thing being the dense development they promised. another vacuous parking lot. how can you possibly want another parking lot? we can only hope they do a parking garage to conserve space for other retail development. why didn't they put the costco some place else that already has a lot of concrete? how about 610 and 290? this news totally ruined my day. it'll be an even worse eyesore than the CVS in midtown.

Yeah I know what you mean. But according to the Chronicle

The school district sold the large, concrete building at 3830 Richmond for $38 million to a company thatplans to build a mixed-use development on the site

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headli...ro/4188462.html

So maybe it's Costco and mixed use. I do hope they do a lot more than just another box store

  10. My office over looks this. And as of yesterday they started. They have taken down the light posts in the park that is already there, and have started tearing up the parking lot (well one of them). And have removed the bushes that surroneded the parking lot, they have also fenced in the area.

SO MAYBE they will be done by January, I think. It looks like they are going to build a parking garage underndeath the park, that might take awhile.

Cool, thanks for the update. On their site it says the official groundbreaking is 16 Oct. So it looks like they're rolling along to make that date

  11. If I wanted something back I wouldn't have let someone take it into the porta crapper in the first place. It's contaminated now.

Don't really care much for Maxim, didn't really care if I got it back(read all there was to read in it). The only reason I got it was because it was the only thing that wasn't a porn, workout or gun magazine in the mini PX. But if I did have it I would of posted the picture here for those who haven't seen it.

    Oh Well

  12. Are we sure the land being cleared isn't the new UHD building?

I doubt it. The land for the new UHD building is already cleared and is being built. I Believe they were already on the 2nd floor and the parking garage was coming along aswell.

  13. That's pretty crazy! I thought there was going to be a ribbon-cutting ceremony...

They cleared out the AstroWorld land without yet committing to build anything. I'll wait till the ribbon cutting ceremony or official announcement before I get my hopes up

  14. i saw the jeep ad in Maxim as well. i was shocked when i didn't see "Houston area Jeep dealer" somewhere on the ad. pretty cool, except the people running around look superimposed.

I'm really late. I saw that add a cuople weeks ago in Maxim aswell. I don't really look at ads either, but it just hit me "Hey, that's Houston!" I let a buddy take the mag to the porta-john and that was the last I saw of it, if not I would post the ad.

Was expecting something about "Houston area Jeep dealer" too.

The park is Sam Houston park in the foreground if I'm not mistaken. Tinsley park is a bit further down Allen Parkway.

  15. What is Denton's e-mail address? I would like to contact him :)

Here it is wededg@aol.com. It was originally on the HP site but I think he might of removed it becuase too many people were bugging him.

I'm still waiting on our ussual nay sayers to post their usual nay sayer remarks "sure it got moved back....cuz it's not going to be built....I'm always right...blah blah...."

Then people like me to say something like "these projects take time.....there is a lot involved.....the project is still a GO" until this thing gets built or is officially killed off.

    Thanks for the update C2H.

As for the HAIF groundbreaking, whose that person that plans the HAIF get togethers? Get him/her to work their majic ;)

  16. Astro's are down by seven games in the NL central and only down by four games for the wild card. I would think that with only about a month left in the season that there would be a bit more hype here.

I was fortunate enough to see the Stros spank Pittsburgh 14-1 earlier this month. That was probably my last game of the season.

  17. Some of us should go over to the site and break the ground for them.

    LOL

That can be the next HAIF meet and greet. Everyone could just bring a pick axe and shovel and let the good times roll :D

so is this project really a go or wuuuuut???

    Yes it's a go.

    Semipro will tell you different

Listen to what I tell y'all. IF!<-- the big IF factor... The Pavilions break ground its going to be around next year.

It sounds like he's coming around though ;)

  18. I hadn't heard of this project before. It looks just like the Gaylord Texan up here, which has been a great success so far so I'm sure it'd be the same down there.

There are 2 nearby golf courses but there is always the lake. I stayed there with my wife a while back when our Dallas apartment was being painted and we walked down to the lake and rented a pair of jet skis and had a fun time out on the water.

    Thanks for the pics Jason.

At first I was a bit skeptical about how it might turn out. Their past work doesn't look half bad. I would really like to see the old dome take on a new life.....even if a bit faux..... it's something else for people to see and do while letting the dome live on.

    PS

welcome to HAIF cosmo (last name wouldn't happen to be Kramer? :D )

  19. I think more retail would work if there were more of a selection...people wouldn't have to hurry home to find a gift, they could do it at lunch or in the evenings to avoid rush hour. Just my opinion though, I've no facts...

I agree, I find myself going clear across town to shop sometimes. If downtown had more of what I was looking for at the time I would go there even if I don't work or live in DT(that's just me....and some people I know)

Some people had brought up that DT was dead even during the day in the middle of the week. When I went walking around while I was there I couldn't believe how many people were walking around and at the train stations. If I had my camera I would of taken a picture to post. It was more than one day too.
