  1. I'm sure that was the intent behind the release of this information. I don't think its a coincidence that METRO drops this bomb after Culbersome makes his decision on the Richmond Alignment.

Which is fine by me if it helps get that line down Richmond and throughout the rest of the city. :D

    You GO Metro!

  2. Some of us should go over to the site and break the ground for them.

    LOL

That can be the next HAIF meet and greet. Everyone could just bring a pick axe and shovel and let the good times roll :D

so is this project really a go or wuuuuut???

    Yes it's a go.

    Semipro will tell you different

Listen to what I tell y'all. IF!<-- the big IF factor... The Pavilions break ground its going to be around next year.

It sounds like he's coming around though ;)

  3. What a surprise.

Forget the emails, bombard the man's office with phone calls.

    713-682-8828

I just called. Kinda fun. The lady acted totally surprised that I would support light rail!

The second I saw the number I called from here. The lady just took down my name and that I was for rail on Richmond. I was biting my lip to keep from calling him a jackass

  4. okay, people.

August 12th at 6pm. jot that down on your calenders, I'll figure out a place by the end of the week.

Dagnabit, I'll be in Ft Hood.

Enjoying the nice TX heatwave in the field. Maybe next time guys.

    Have fun...take pics :D

  5. I looked up the location

Could this be Farb's CitiPlace? it was announced a few months ago that he would be building urban apartments in that general vicinity...

I was thinking of that...just couldn't come up with the name, was searching past threads. Not sure if this is that project

  6. Hello all, new to the board!!!

Anyone have news on the development at Webster and Brazos (between 2222 and Post apartments)? First stages of development today after the demo....

Sorry if this has been posted before, like I said, I am new!

    Welcome Murray :D

Trying to think of this place but I'm drawing a blank

I'm sure some one here will be able to answer your question or at least point you in the right direction

  7. Make sure it is way past 1960. Dont need anymore mall stuff in such close proximity to me. Willowbrook and surrounding area is more than enough here. The traffic is nuts and Xmas time is off the scale....no more!!!!!

Yeah it does get pretty nasty out there during Christmas. I remember a few years back two women literally fighting for a parking space at that mall

  8. According to this article, it looks like they're going to install seat belts on school buses.

The thing they don't really think about is, while in any other form of transportation seat belts is a good idea, but when a bus has a SERIOUS accident, they usually flip on it's side. The force of the seat belts on a body on the 'upside" will have the potential of further injuries.

I'm surprised no one really looked into that fact.

Isn't that the reason there was a hesitation in installing seatbelts in school buses? That they could cuase more harm than good.

That in a fire all those kids could be upside down strapped to their seats and not be able to get pulled out in time

  9. I hadn't heard of this project before. It looks just like the Gaylord Texan up here, which has been a great success so far so I'm sure it'd be the same down there.

There are 2 nearby golf courses but there is always the lake. I stayed there with my wife a while back when our Dallas apartment was being painted and we walked down to the lake and rented a pair of jet skis and had a fun time out on the water.

    Thanks for the pics Jason.

At first I was a bit skeptical about how it might turn out. Their past work doesn't look half bad. I would really like to see the old dome take on a new life.....even if a bit faux..... it's something else for people to see and do while letting the dome live on.

    PS

welcome to HAIF cosmo (last name wouldn't happen to be Kramer? :D )

  10. Texan

    Houstonian

I love telling people I'm a Texan, it always trips them up later when I tell them I am not a Bush supporter. People outside the state didn't know people like me existed. They look at you not unlike a heterosexual man telling people he is a ballet dancer.

When I do mention I'm from Texas, people ask me "where's your Texas Accent?"

    "I'm from Houston......we don't have one ;) "

One guy even said [i forget what we were originally talking about,( think he was from Brooklyn)] "You sure you're from TX, your just too cool man"

    "It's cuz I'm from Houston B) "

  11. Sorry to digress off topic'

"Houstonian in Iraq", what happens when you are not in Iraq anymore, will you change your name to "Houstonian who was in Iraq"?

    Okay, back onto the rail.

Well I'm not in Iraq anymore. I came up with the name while there and stuck with it. The way I see it I'll be back soon (for the third time)so no need to change it every other year. Maybe once the war is over I might do ;)

    LOL nice one Red

  12. When around other Americans I always say Houstonian. When I'm asked by anyone else especially here I now say I'm from TX. I use to say I was from Houston but I would always get a blank look  (I think it's the American accent) now I just say TX and most people get that. Some times though I need to defualt to my third answer and say American. Then I just get one of these :D

  13. Memorial Hermann, the largest Houston-area hospital group, is working with a Houston-based real estate firm to build a new 35-story tower at the hospital's Memorial City campus.

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nb/mem...ws/4052304.html

I'm curious how this would impact the neighbourhood, specifically the houses nearby...

(Sorry, I intended to post this under the "Memorial City Mall" topic. Don't know how to delete and re-post.)

It's all good. You must of just gone under new topic instead of reply. No biggy one of the moderators will fix it.

  14. well i don't have a source that i 've been able to find on the internet, so i am warning you, it could be rumor. This is buzz that i've heard from construction workers i know and skyscrapercity ( I know what you all are gonna say)!

    Yeah so I won't say it. <_<

It does sound like a rumor. Come on completion date in '08 we would of heard about it long ago

  15. It was located at Main and McKinney. Eventually, I think it became McKinney Place. I don't have pics of it, but I'm sure others do and could mention what happened to it. I know Woolworth's closed sometime in the late 1990s.

My mother used to work at the Walgreens up the street in the 1990s. She said the upstair bathrooms still had markings for blacks and whites.

Yeah I remember going as a kid and seeing the fallout shelter signs. Woolworths still exists abroad, there here in England and saw it in Barbados too.

Just got in this morning what is up with this new HAIF format? Just not use to it. I'm sure there is thread about it around here.

  16. AOL CityGuide's 2006 "Top 11 Booms with a View"

    "recognizes cities with top-notch fireworks"

New York at Macy's, D.C.'s view from the Mall, the other places are in Chicago; Philadelphia; Orlando, Fla.; Lake Tahoe, Calif.; St. Louis, Miami, San Diego, Houston and New Orleans.

Are they referring to the Freedom Over Texas display? The commercial says it's the nation's largest "land-based" display.

I'm pretty sure NY's is water based don't know about the others. If they are, Houston's might just be the largest land based one
