I spoke with one of the engineers working on this project and he told me that with this being geared more towards the family crowd, the average person is going to find this project disappointing.
He said the ones calling the shots are hell bent on having this park be a certain way, that is until demand for more roller coasters and thrill seeking rides forces them to change their point of view.

Clutch City said they will be opening up the upstairs next week. I think they have a good start but needs something more to the downstairs area. Seems a little too wide open inside to me.

I drove by the other night wondering what had happened to Union Bar. I guess this would make sense.

Yeah the name seems as if there will be at least two towers not one and an adjoined lower "tower". I also don't care for how he pronounces Brazos.

Could be good getting out there and putting in a few volunteer hours with some of the organizations around town.

This should be the "Updates On The Astoria Condos & Mickey D's" thread haha.
-
Well it has peaked my interest in wanting to check it out once it is finished.

Would be interesting if they revived the idea for the big video boards.

I was curious as to how far over the new McD's will be compared to the old one so I overlaid the two the best I could. Thought I'd share.

Kinda reminds me of Embassy Suites Downtown a bit..
lol I think this is a far cry from the abomination that became the ES Downtown.

It looks like their earliest move in date is March 31st according to their website.
619 sqft for $1365... Yowzers. -
This is still the NBA All-Star Game thread right?

HP seemed promising at first, but the moment the residential component was axed, it made the task of supplying downtown locals too difficult. No tunnel access for the daytime crowd did not help. And I cant speak for all of downtown's residents but I live at Rice Lofts and for me HP is too far to walk to on a regular basis. As far as the rumored movie theatre goes, why would I walk farther and get bummed more when I can get a better experience at sundance just down the street from me?
Spoken like a true Houstonian haha. Wouldn't walk a half mile on a regular basis.

This thread would probably be best in the Sugar Land and the Southwest topics folder

Can anyone take a more current picture for those of us who cannot get to the area?

The fact we had a Galveston-Houston rail 100 years ago but not now just shows how the attitude of this country has shifted towards greed over time.
Greed = capitalism and true capitalism is the most efficient way to increase overall prosperity. Since we no longer have true capitalism but crony capitalism, things have become distorted.
I think I'm missing your point as to how having a railroad 100 years ago to Galveston that is no longer in service has to do with greed.

Thanks for the visual lockmat. I have always wondered myself what the size comparison was but for some reason never got around to doing the research.

So let me get this straight, theres still gonna be a midtown location and a Regent Square location?
Regent Square location is a certainty, but Midtown is up in the air and uncertain at this point in time.

There is a Mill Creek Drive which is in a neighborhood off 18th street near the 290/610 intersection. Doesn't seem like the right place for an apartment complex though.

This NBC Sports article makes it seem as if Houstonngetting another super bowl is a shoe in!
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/02/06/seven-cities-lining-up-to-host-super-bowl-lii/
I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say a 2/3 or 66% chance is a shoe in, but it is decent odds.

Proposed waterways. The "North Canal" at the top would allow better control of floodwaters during storms, which would allow the promenade canal along Commerce Street to function in much the same manner as San Antonio's River Walk.
I find it interesting that I've frequented this website for many years but never heard anything about these two different canals. Thanks for the information.

In the article above, I wonder what waterways they are depicting in this map where the two 4's are.

More examples: The Modular is opening a ramen shop http://houston.eater.com/archives/2013/02/04/joshua-martinez-to-open-ramen-shop-downtown-2.php and Justin Burrow is opening a bar. http://blogs.houstonpress.com/eating/2013/02/justin_burrow_new_downtown_bar.php
They said they didn't want to reveal the location but I am 100 percent sure this is it.
This was the photo given in the article and to me is a dead give away.
This is from google maps
Has to be it.

Don't get too excited. I believe it isn't funded yet.
Not really excited but confused. Isn't there the proposed middle bus lanes or something that they hope someday would be converted to rails? Is this what it meant by rails?
