  1. now I got a question: Is the $700 Memorial City Project and the Redevelopment of Town & Country the same project, or two different companies with a real estate war underway?
  2. Wasn't that the movie with Burt Renoylds and Mark Walhberg and Heather...oh wait, that's Boogie Nights. Disregard
  3. Um, are you, like, saying Burge's a Democrat or Republican? And, like, would it explain why he's making us pay for the ice for the expansion North Pole Helpers hockey francise?
  4. You know, I bet if someone convinced City Council, City Council THEMSELVES could talk to the corperations about using the buildings at night on a regular basis :-)
  5. According to this resume here, it says Billy Burke is also the Chairman of the Leprechans with Leparsy in Harris County, The Soy Beer Association, the The North Pole Sports Authority, The Collition Against Humidity, the Gary Coleman Fanclub, AND the American Idol Rejects Counciling Center. Sounds pretty impressive to me :-)
  6. Yo dude, haven't heard the interview yet(btw, I'ma hear the interview 8 hours from now), but how does one man become the active chairman of the Grand Parkway Association AND the Sports Authority? What would be in it for Burke? Why would he be select to head both and not some CEO of, say, Enron? (hey, I heard Burke and Ken Lay could work REAL well together. Go get 'em, tiger!!) j/k So like, if Burke were to,say, I don't know, quit both commitees, what other source of income would he get from Houston other than by selling propane and propane accesories?
  7. Special OYE to Houston19514! You have just joined the Kick-Ass Club, my friend! Kinda curious about the last paragraph in your statement. How did Power of Houston pull it off in the first place? I mean, being allowed to light up the buildings? And even if they agree, would the City of Houston still have to approve it? Oye, and they REALLY should not have stopped Power of Houston only after the 3rd year. I wonder why they chose to have that event in October and not for 4th of July or New Year's Eve...
  8. ELSUUUUK!!!!!! hahahahaha!!! You probably know some of my family members. They went to Elsik around the same time you and your hubby did :-) Does anyone with the last name of McKenzie ring a bell? Alief RULES!! I got familia at both schools now!!!
  9. "I believe him yo. I don't know why, but I do...." ---Scarface, "Half Baked"
  10. I think Downtown Miami's skyline looks the best out of the whole country at night. BTW, 27, it's be SOOOOO COOOOLLL if we could have a Ultra Music Festival in Houston like Downtown Miami does. The biggest electronic music fest in the world, with the lit up skyline, and over 50,000 visiters in the city?! Imagine that, yo!!!! DJs unite!!!! RESPECT!!!
  11. Here's a pic or two from Power of Houston... http://www.flex.net/~furneaux/poh.htm http://houston.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsit.../powerofhouston http://www.hightsite.com/powhouston.html http://www.flickr.com/photos/kt/1131906/ now THIS ONE is what I think Houston could look like on a regular basis at night... http://www.hightsite.com/powhou05.html what do you think?
  12. You're right! I almost forgot about the Riva Place development! The renderings look hot, too! That's for da response, Citykid :-) Yo, I wasn't aware of the Westchase development. Do they have any renderings or pics on it?
  13. At least, go half and half. Meaning? Sunday Night-Wednesday Night, same as now. Thursday Night-Saturday night, Holidays, and VERY special occasions, Power of Houston style lighting.
  14. Agree 100%, C2H. I'll give two more perfect example: Downtown Miami and Las Vegas. Lighting works, yo. And we got the skyline to do it. We looked great during Power of Houston, but if visiters saw what we saw during that time period, they'd be in awe.
  15. No dude, I agree with you 100%. The multiple business areas and complexes we have (uptown, greenway, TMC, etc.) have seriously revamped and defined the areas surrounding it. Imagine if Uptown's office buildings, Galleria, and Williams Tower were downtown. What major attraction would be uptown? If The Medical Center was located downtown, why would the Museum district and Hermann Park want to be located where it is if not as many people would be passing through? Also, why would ANYONE want to live in the suburbs if everything we had was in a CBD? Remember how large size wise Houston is. What would attract people to other parts of the city other than downtown, and how would land value for the rest of the city increase? The rich would get richer downtown, and the middle class would have a more difficult way of life do to the lack of privilage that is proximity. Once again, someone tell me why downtown, Midtown, Memorial City, and Town & Country's development isn't good enough, and where else in town you'd like to see become urbanized to benefit the city.
  16. ALL valid points so far. Personally, I don't see the problem with more sprawl in Houston as Houston seems to be developing urban-style living in a faster rate than years past. I also think the wide selection of choice between citylife and spacious country life is a strong attraction to Houston that not many other cities have, and I also consider it wrong to "force" neighboorhoods to build closer to the city than they want to. Also, I saw most of my driving in Houston directly from suburb to suburb. I question however if I will ever HAVE to use the Grand Parkway. So here's da questions in my head to y'all: 1) anyone here got a link to a map of where Grand Parkway will be built (just so I know I'm accurate) 2) does anyone in this thread have anything to gain or lose by this freeway being built? 3) Will Grand Parkway serve it's purpose as a faster commute from Sugarland to Katy to Woodlands? 4) Would the Parkway reduce traffic in the rest of the city? I love Houston. Hit me up :-)
  17. Yo, I don't get it. Urban-style living is currently being developed as we speak downtown, Midtown, Memorial City, and Town & Country. What other neighborhoods would you want to see urban-style development built in Houston?
  18. I didn't realize Billy Burge headed so many commitees and organizations. Do you consider him currupt, and if so, how exactly did he gain so much power? (sorry, I think i missed something)
  19. Yes, I kid, I kid. Don't believe DJ V Lawrence, yo. He's just a dude that's never been to New York OR Houston in the first place. Hell, I'm not even sure if he's been in Texas for that matter. In fact, I'm not even sure that he's even a DJ. I heard he went to the Neverland Ranch at age 9 and hasn't been heard from since. Nah seriously, no disrespect. Which part did you think was inaccurate? Where was I wrong, yo?
  20. INDEED born and raised. Alief area's my home, Richmond Strip is where I roamed, Sugarland is where I relaxed, Galleria's where I shopped 'til I collapsed. Galveston made me a slacker, and Astroworld's sun made me blacker. San Jacinto made me humble like Humble, but Downtown's beauty made my heart crumble. With all our firefighters without lighters, police officers with no lost desires, teachers and preachers, DJs and freeways, creative babies and sexy ladies, doctors and nurses, Nightclubs and churches, business people that volunteer equal-ly? Import cars, dreams without walls, and citizens that helped put our foundation down, I am proud to call Houston MY town.
  21. Dude, I suck. I'm quoting myself but exactly what's going on in Midtown and Memorial City? and, um, I don't think there's another city in America built as successfully as ours. Atlanta may be similar in SOME parts of town, but when an out-of towner comes to Houston, they've told me they thought we had, like, FIVE downtowns. No joke. Medical Center, Galleria, Greenspoint, Woodlands, Greenway Plaza just to name a few, ALL have Downtown-like skylines that make visiters think we have, like, more than five different cities within us. (Bellaire, very funny). Now check it; we are very unique. Go to New York and it looks like one ENSIZED downtown, without any room for suburbanization to take place. Tell me one place ANYWHERE in 8 1/2 million-people NYC that has 6 lanes of traffic for their rides. They don't. Why? Not only is the mass transit system so well set up there, but face it, their's simply no room for you to cruise around. Compare that to H-Town. We too kool for da carpool, foo. In closing this irelevant, I mean, irreverant speech, remember this; 27 already has been inducted into the Kick-Ass club. What does that mean? It means he's right, by default. Manhattan and most of NYC has no room to grow, so they have to build up and not out. They have no choice, yo. H-Town not only has that choise, but we give that option of big city, suburban, or roomy feel living to all of our real estate consumers.
